Overview

The Maintenance Intern position is designed for high school students interested in exploring a career in building maintenance, engineering, or skilled trades. Under the supervision of the hotel's Engineering team, the intern will assist with routine maintenance tasks while learning about the systems and processes that keep a full-service hotel operating efficiently and safely.

This internship provides hands-on experience in a professional hospitality environment and supports the intern's development in teamwork, safety, communication, and basic technical skills. RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under supervision, the intern may assist in:

  • Performing light preventative maintenance tasks (e.g., replacing light bulbs, cleaning vents, checking smoke detectors).

  • Helping with general repair tasks such as patching walls, painting, or minor fixture repair.

  • Supporting pool area upkeep (e.g., organizing supplies, learning about pool chemical safety).

  • Maintaining hotel curb appeal by assisting with basic outdoor tasks (e.g., litter pickup, watering plants).

  • Shadowing engineers on inspections and service calls to observe HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.

  • Keeping tools and supply areas organized and stocked.

  • Responding professionally and courteously to staff requests for maintenance support.

  • Following all safety protocols and company policies at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be at least 16 years old and currently enrolled in high school.

  • Interest in trades such as electrical, HVAC, plumbing, or general maintenance.

  • Must be reliable, punctual, and eager to learn.

  • Ability to take direction and work as part of a team.

  • Capable of light physical labor, including standing for long periods and lifting up to 25 lbs.

  • Available to work part-time, including some weekends or holidays, as needed.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the internship, participants will:

  • Understand the basics of hotel maintenance and engineering systems.

  • Demonstrate safe practices when using hand tools and performing light repair work.

  • Develop confidence in a professional work environment.

  • Gain insight into potential career paths in skilled trades or facilities management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to hotel maintenance areas and occasional outdoor environments.

  • Supervised work in guest areas, mechanical rooms, and back-of-house spaces.

  • Uniform provided; safety training required.
