RapidScale is seeking a Director of Cloud Infrastructure to lead our architecture and engineering teams responsible for designing, implementing, maintaining, and evolving the core platforms that power our cloud services. This individual will oversee the performance, reliability, and operational excellence of RapidScale's infrastructure, both on-premises and across public cloud environments, while ensuring a scalable and secure foundation for product innovation and customer success.

This is a highly visible leadership role that demands strong technical depth, strategic vision, and a hands-on approach to execution. The Director will manage a high-performing team, drive infrastructure modernization initiatives, support cross-functional collaboration, and deliver a world-class cloud experience for our customers.

The overall Hosted Cloud Infrastructure team is responsible for successfully designing, planning, building and operating the RapidScale Cloud platforms. The Architects are primarily responsible for leading new initiatives or significant changes from inception to implementation. The Engineering team is primarily responsible for sustaining, upgrading & extending platforms. All department members provide advanced support, troubleshooting, and management of the RapidScale Cloud platforms.

Primary Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership for RapidScale's cloud infrastructure, including compute, networking, storage, BCDR, backups, hypervisors, security, and data centers across both on-prem and public cloud environments.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of engineers and architects to ensure technical excellence, accountability, and consistent execution. Includes recruiting, coaching, and performance management in collaboration with HR.
  • Plan and manage departmental budgets, resource allocation, and roadmap execution to align with company growth and customer demand.
  • Maintain high availability, performance, and compliance of infrastructure services, ensuring uptime and service levels meet or exceed internal and customer expectations.
  • Drive platform evolution through sustained engineering, upgrades, lifecycle refreshes, performance tuning, capacity expansion, and cost optimization.
  • Champion operational excellence using observability tools (monitoring, alerting, logging) to proactively identify and resolve system health or performance issues, reducing mean time to resolution (MTTR).
  • Serve as the escalation point for major incidents, ensuring timely resolution, root cause analysis, and communication with stakeholders.
  • Lead cross-functional change coordination across multiple data centers and customer environments while mitigating risks and minimizing service disruptions.
  • Ensure disciplined adherence to ITIL and service provider best practices for incident, problem, change, and configuration management.
  • Partner closely with teams across Support, Product, Project Management, Security, and Compliance to drive initiatives and resolve shared operational challenges.
  • Lead major infrastructure initiatives and projects such as automated provisioning, hybrid cloud integration, and service rollouts ensuring scalability, security, and compliance.
  • Provide regular reporting on infrastructure KPIs, operational metrics, platform health, and team performance to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Optimize software licensing, vendor relationships, and resource utilization to reduce cost and improve return on infrastructure investments.


Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline and 10 years' experience in a related field. The right candidate could also have a different combination, such as a master's degree and 8 years' experience; a Ph.D. and 5 years' experience in a related field; or 14 years' experience in a related field * 5+ years' experience in a management or leadership role
  • Expertise & competence with Infrastructure architecture, implementation, operations, upgrades, management and capacity planning
  • Willingness to work on a 24x7 on-call rotation schedule & travel up to 25% for work in RapidScale data centers & professional development.
  • Protects and maintains the integrity of our company and customer information. These protections include information assets including customer and company information for any PHI, PII, contact, and other related personal or proprietary information. All positions at Rapidscale have role-based levels of access to networks, systems, customers, and company information.


Preferred:

  • Experience operating as a provider and customer in multi-tenant environment(s)
  • Defining & Maintaining SLO/SLA's, & Best Practices
  • Experience with Virtualization Technologies, Networking, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, VDI, Storage, Compute, Public Clouds (Azure, AWS, GC)


USD 175,300.00 - 292,100.00

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $175,300.00 - $292,100.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.

Benefits:

The Company offers eligible employees the flexibility to take as much vacation with pay as they deem consistent with their duties, the company's needs, and its obligations; seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year; and up to 160 hours of paid wellness annually for their own wellness or that of family members. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
