Position Summary:

The Director, Patient Access Operations will lead and manage Patient Access (PAX) operational activities to ensure alignment and organization across multiple stakeholders, including Payer, Access & Reimbursement (ARM), Patient Services, Trade & Distribution, HEOR, analytics, data systems and insights. The ideal candidate is someone with excellent project management and organizational skills. The role ensures timely, accurate, and actionable visibility into access-related functions that support strategic excellence, enterprise planning, launch readiness, and pull-through execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares key PAX meetings, deliverables, and aligns content across PAX organization in support of enterprise workstreams (e.g.: Brand Plan, LRP, Launch Readiness, Financial and Tactical Plan etc).

  • This role will serve as a key advisor to the Senior Vice President of PAX, facilitating cross-functional alignment, enhancing executive communication, and ensuring the efficient execution of strategic initiatives.

  • Acts as a primary communication conduit between senior leadership and internal stakeholders, ensuring consistent messaging, outlines clear expectations and information flow.

  • Facilitates cross-functional alignment between Patient Access, Pricing & Contracting, Field Access, and Patient Services leadership by coordinating updates, tracking interdependencies, and identifying process gaps.

  • Ensures payer access updates (e.g., formulary, prior authorization, step edits) are consistently reflected in internal systems and tools used by field access teams, including CRM platforms and coverage matrices.

  • Owns the development and delivery of access performance dashboards and executive summaries for Patient Access (PAX) leadership, highlighting operational trends, delays, and cross-functional opportunities.

  • Supports launch planning and large-scale strategic initiatives across the PAX organization by tracking readiness for visibility, internal communication alignment, and access enablement across multiple functions.

  • Partners with analytics and insights teams to define and refine meaningful access performance indicators, such as payer status visibility, implementation timelines, and operational access barriers.

  • Collaborates with Data Systems and Commercial Operations teams to support Patient Access data architecture, data aggregator solutions, and CRM enhancements to ensure effective visibility, integration, and usability across platforms.

  • Leads evaluation of operational issues, identifies target areas for improvement, and leads solution development and implementation.

  • Manages the PAX commercial operations budget, ensuring alignment with financial goals.

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business or relevant Life Sciences discipline. Advanced degree preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry, including experience in Commercial Operations and/or Market Access support functions.

  • Demonstrated success in cross-functional project leadership and infrastructure development in support of Commercial organization.

  • Demonstrates ability to gain buy-in and strategic alignment among various stakeholders.

  • Demonstrates learning agility and rapid data-informed decision making

  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.

  • Ability to travel up to 20% domestically

  • All positions have an essential job function to be able to perform face to face work with colleagues and/or onsite in San Diego. No role is expected to be 100% remote.

Target Base Pay Range:

$181,000.00 - $235,000.00
