Who we are and what we do:

The Tennessee Bureau of Workers' Compensation is the regulatory agency over the workers' compensation system in Tennessee. Employers who are subject to the Workers' Compensation Act, insurers, and medical providers are regulated by the Bureau. We work with employers, injured workers, and claims professionals to educate the public about workers' compensation benefits and resolve workers' compensation benefit disputes. The Bureau of Workers' Compensation (BWC) is looking for a creative and detail-oriented professional to serve as the cornerstone of our written communications. The ideal candidate is a passionate and exceptional writer, skilled in developing compelling content for multiple platforms and transforming complex information into clear, engaging messages. You would be using tools like Microsoft 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud to research, write, and edit content that directly supports our educational goals and strengthens the Bureau's voice as a trusted resource.

This role is an essential member of our three-member communications team collaborating daily with the Communications Director and the Learning Admin & Digital Transformation Specialist to move projects from concept to completion. Key Responsibilities:

  • Develops and Creates Written Content for Multiple Platforms: Serves as the team's primary writer and editor, producing clear, accurate, and engaging content for a variety of channels including social media, internal and external newsletters, and the Bureau's annual report.
  • Authors and Designs Educational and Training Materials: Works closely with subject-matter experts to write and structure content for the Bureau's eLearning modules, including the self-paced Adjuster Certification eCourse.
  • Manages Audience Communications and Identifies Content Needs: Oversees the Bureau's primary public-facing email inbox (WC Info), providing timely and professional responses and analyzing communication trends to proactively suggest new content.
  • Enhances and Optimizes Website Content: Contributes to the quality and effectiveness of the Bureau's website by reviewing and editing existing content for clarity, grammar, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Ensures Brand Consistency and Quality Across All Communications: Acts as a steward for the Bureau's voice and tone, ensuring all written materials are professional, consistent, and adhere to established style guidelines.
  • Contributes to Various Other Communications Projects: Actively participates in the team's collaborative project management approach, contributing writing and editing skills to shared initiatives and understanding how individual tasks support the team's broader objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field; and experience equivalent to three to five years of full-time, professional-level work in content development, corporate communications, journalism, public relations, or digital marketing.

Substitution of Experience for Education:

Additional qualifying experience as described above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
