Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The goal of the
UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention (
HPDP) is to prevent chronic disease and reduce health disparities. Investigators and staff at
HPDP work with communities to conduct research, provide training and translate research findings into policy and practice. Research areas include nutrition and physical activity, cardiovascular health, diabetes, obesity, healthy food access, cancer prevention and control, children's health, rural health, and health equity.
HPDP is part of a network of 20
CDC Prevention Research Centers across the United States. |
Position Summary |
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy.
UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
This temporary full-time (up to 40 hours a week) Research Assistant position will work with the Community Health and Resource Team across projects. The primary study they will work on is the Spectra Discovery Project (National Institutes of Health R01-funded study). This study is interested in testing the feasibility and reliability of sensors (worn in glasses and a shirt clip) to measure children's screen time. The Research Assistant will assist with recruiting 3-8-year-old children and their parents for the study. The Research Assistant will assist in prepping materials for recruitment and data collection that occurs at the homes of children. Additionally, they will orient parents and children to materials and tasks, check in with participating parents, and monitor the study email for questions from participants. The position will assist with data entry, data coding, and data cleaning. The Research Assistant will be responsible for checking data for accuracy and completeness and will keep the database up to date and accurate. It is also likely the Research Assistant will assist with other projects under the Community Health and Wellness Resource Team umbrella.
Some evening and weekend hours will be required for data collection. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |

- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
- Excellent customer service skills

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
- Exposure to course work in public health, health behavior, exercise science, nutrition, psychology, social work, or related field
- Experience with using research protocols to recruit and collect data on participants
- Knowledge and experience working with young children |
