Join our team as a GIS Specialist IV in Lafayette, Louisiana. This role supports groundbreaking research in wetland ecology by conducting fieldwork, processing ecological samples, and managing spatial data to help guide conservation decisions along the Gulf Coast and Southeastern U.S. coastlines.

Compensation & Benefits:

Estimated Starting Salary Range for GIS Specialist IV: $70,000-$72,000

Pay commensurate with experience.

Full time benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, and other possible benefits as provided. Benefits are subject to change with or without notice.

GIS Specialist IV Responsibilities Include:

  • Support field-based ecological monitoring of coastal wetlands across the Northern Gulf of America and Southeastern U.S.
  • Identify coastal wetland vegetation to the species level and conduct environmental sampling (soil, water, greenhouse gases)
  • Utilize GIS tools to process and analyze ecological and spatial data
  • Perform data entry, formatting, and preliminary statistical analysis for reporting
  • Follow established protocols for sample collection, QA/QC procedures, and equipment operation
  • Process ecological samples (plant, soil, water) in laboratory settings
  • Collaborate with principal investigators to prepare summary reports and publish data releases in compliance with federal policies
  • Provide technical support for long-term monitoring programs, including the Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS)
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

GIS Specialist IV Experience, Education, Skills, Abilities requested:

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Minimum 4 years of experience supporting ecological fieldwork and GIS analysis
  • Proficiency with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) and data management systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of wetland ecology and plant species identification
  • Experience with ecological sampling techniques and laboratory processing procedures
  • Familiarity with statistical methods used in ecological research
  • Ability to travel for multi-day fieldwork in coastal environments
  • Strong organizational, communication, and technical reporting skills
  • U.S. citizenship or appropriate work authorization required
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal
