Job Summary

#CA-PS

Under the direction of the CEF Technical Director, provide journey-level Electrical experience, supporting the CEF, as well as repair a variety of controlled environment chambers. Procure materials, fabricate, install, repair, inspect, service, maintain and replace components of controlled environment chambers, including lighting, ballasts, motors, blowers and pumps, involving electrical, electronic, mechanical and plumbing tasks. Perform proper time keeping and accounting of materials and expenses for assigned projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Must possess a certificate of completion from a recognized union apprenticeship program, University apprenticeship program, accredited trade school or have the equivalent amount of experience and training comparable to a journey-level craftsperson in the electrical trade. Non-certified applicants will have their training and experience evaluated by members of Facilities Services Senior Leadership Group.
  • No Minimum Education required
  • Demonstrated journey level experience in the electrical trade and related practices sufficient to perform assigned duties efficiently and safely, to NEC industry standards, without direct supervision.
  • Demonstrated skill to fabricate, maintain, service, repair, replace, install and/or alter electrical equipment (construction, maintenance, alarms) related to controlled environment chambers.
  • Demonstrated understanding of control systems engineering, including PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) controllers.
  • Demonstrated analytical and trouble-shooting skills to understand and interpret performance data, and determine electrical, mechanical and structural specifications and repairs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electrical, building, and safety codes regarding the installation and repair of electrical systems relevant to controlled environment chambers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a research setting and industrial setting preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Basic computer skills to operate a personal computer for communication (email & Word), organization (Excel), and training (Zoom and Learning Management Systems).Demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of approved safety devices and practices.

The Controlled Environment Facility is a world-class research facility that supports work with plants, soils, and other systems requiring precise experimental conditions. The CEF houses 165 Conviron growth chambers in two buildings for use by faculty, post-docs, staff and students.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
