SUMMARY



UT operator calibrates and uses ultrasonic testing equipment to measure casting wall thickness. Grades castings against parts specific UT work instruction for dimensional requirements. Records data for engineering and separates non-conforming product and moves good product to next routed operation. Perform ultrasonic inspections of metal stainless steel/nickel-based alloy/cobalt-based alloy investment castings for wall thickness measurements.



Performs the following duties:



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.



  • Perform UT Equipment calibrations, marking product with data point locations, operation of foot pedal to store data in software program, review of data for out of tolerance readings, and cleaning product when test has been completed.
  • Candidates shall be able to complete 24 hours of classroom training and 275 hours of work experience/on the job training. Passing a general exam , specific exam , and practical exam is required for certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents written in English, such as safety rules, general standard procedures, and part specific work instructions.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee occasionally is required to stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision with at least Snellen 20/25 in one eye corrected or non- corrected.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE



  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



LANGUAGE SKILLS



  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, inspection manuals and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS



  • Ability to add , subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers and decimals.



REASONING ABILITY



  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and make decisions based on all available information.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes. Although a minimal potential for exposure to radiation is possible, actual exposure is highly unlikely. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
