Under the supervision of the UW-Madison Associate Director of Finance, Travel and Card Team Manager, the Central Services Specialist is responsible for reviewing, approving, and advising on Workday Expenses transactions, including higher complexity expense reports and purchasing card transactions. In addition, this position may be responsible for data analysis, communication, and aspects of the UW Foundation billing process. This centrally located position will work closely with other Division of Business Services staff, and faculty, staff and leadership from UW Madison schools, colleges, and auxiliaries.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • May train staff on financial processes and best practices

  • Monitors financial transactions and fund balances and generates and reconciles complex reports and statements in accordance with established rules and regulations

  • Reviews and approves complex transactions and assigns funding codes in accordance with established rules, regulations, and policies

  • Drafts communications and reports and maintains organization of varied records to provide administrative support within a specified work unit

  • Answers complex fiscal questions and provides information based on set materials and standards to various audiences

  • Reallocates expenses to appropriate funding strings

  • Serve as a unit liaison to leadership providing financial advice, recommendations, and financial status updates

  • Reviews transaction processing internal controls and recommends policies and procedures

Department:

Division of Business Services/Disbursements

The mission of the Division of Business Services (DoBS) is to support UW-Madison's institutional responsibilities of higher education and research. Business Services offers a broad range of services and transaction processing to campus, including accounting, internal auditing, risk management, purchasing, materials distribution and surplus property management, and tuition and student loan services.

Located in DoBS, Accounting Services provides financial services and management for UW-Madison, including the processing and reporting of accounting data. The department develops and implements financial policies and procedures for university-wide business processes for compliance with tax laws and other Federal and State regulations.

Compensation:

The expected salary for this position is $58,000 (12-month) for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.

Required Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience working with ERP software applications
* Experience with purchasing card transaction reconciliations
* Experience working with expense reporting/reimbursement
* Experience in higher education accounting
* Proficient in using Microsoft Excel

Education:

Associate's Degree Preferred
