Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Faculty Governance serves the faculty governmental needs of the University. The Department's purpose is to facilitate faculty government and to serve as the central coordinator for the work of: (1) the Chair of the Faculty; the 95-member Faculty Council; the 24 Standing Committees of the General Faculty; nomination and selection of recipients of Distinguished Alumnus Awards, Honorary Degrees, the Thomas Jefferson Award, the Edward Kidder Graham Award, and Carolina's nominee for the O. Max Gardner; annual nominations and elections for approximately one-third of the 185 elected positions in faculty government; publication and distribution of The Faculty Code of University Government, maintenance of an extensive website pertaining to Faculty Governance affairs, and other campus concerns relevant to the work of the faculty and; (2) faculty relations with the Trustees, Board of Governors, the Faculty Assembly, the General Administration, the Legislature, and other outside entities. The Department provides assistance and information to faculty, administrators, and student government on matters of faculty legislation, curricular and degree changes, and other issues of concern, serves as a conduit for communications with the nearly 4,000-member faculty, manages the Campus Y Faculty Commons, and provides research, coordination, and other assistance for the Chair of the Faculty, the Secretary of the Faculty, and the Faculty Committees.
Position Summary
Hybrid: This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

The Executive Assistant primarily provides scheduling and communications assistance to the Secretary of the Faculty and the Chair of the Faculty, while also assisting with office and space management duties. Also serves as the first point of contact for faculty constituents, the public and the media who are trying to contact the Secretary of the Faculty and the Chair of the Faculty.
Duties involve scheduling meetings, calendaring, maintaining files, composing and processing correspondence, attending meetings with the purpose of taking minutes or notes, planning and organizing faculty events, monitoring financial accounts and transactions, gathering background information for meetings, managing use and maintenance of the Anne Queen Faculty Commons, organizing and managing the office space, and maintaining supplies and equipment.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Established skills in organizing, calendaring, scheduling, accounting, problem-solving, composing correspondence, and maintaining records.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, initiative and a positive attitude. Outstanding communications skills. Experience in implementing effective systems to organize groups and office workflow. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. WordPress experience is helpful, as is a willingness to learn new technologies. Event planning experience a plus.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to work on the second floor of a building with no elevator. Ability to carry supplies, set up tables and re-arrange room furniture before and after meetings.
