We have an opening for an experienced industry veteran with a passion for building to join our team as a Regional General Superintendent. This position will provide expertise, mentorship, and guidance to all Senior Superintendents, Superintendents, and field staff in the Central Virginia region. This position reports to the General Superintendent.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Be the "voice of the field" by identifying personnel concerns, execution challenges, and needed process improvements
  • Support the field staff by providing oversight, mentoring, training, and development
  • Play an active role in the performance management and career development of the field staff
  • Help Superintendents coach and develop their team members to grow within the organization and take on increased levels of responsibility
  • Ensure knowledge transfer and expertise training is provided to develop the job site management skills of all field staff
  • Foster and cultivate a team culture that aligns with Hourigan's mission and values
  • Field manpower management
  • Work closely with the Business Unit Leader and Project Executives to monitor project field staffing levels to ensure resource allocation aligns with project type, budget, and schedule requirements
  • Participate in the recruitment and hiring recommendations for Superintendents and other field staff for the region
  • Project acquisition
  • Work alongside Client Solutions, Preconstruction, and Operations to help identify proposed project team
  • Provide input to General Conditions and Site Logistics needs/pricing, and participate in subcontractor pre-award evaluations
  • Study design development documents and provide input on site logistics plan and assist with schedule development
  • Project planning and execution oversight
  • Ensure the Hourigan brand is maintained on all project sites within the region
  • Participate in the Hourigan Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) by committing to safe work practices, raising concerns, attending and applying safety and health training, and eliminating hazards within your capability and control and the help of safety staff
  • Provide resources and support to ensure positive safety and health outcomes in line with the Hourigan SHMS; ensure adherence to all safety standards by all personnel
  • Ensure that processes and procedures pertaining to field means and methods are properly executed
  • Make recommendations and participate in the planning of site logistics, construction operations, and complex procedures
  • Verify ongoing work is progressing to the established project schedule; Assist the field staff in the sequential and accelerated management of tasks by providing general guidance and suggestions as mandated by the progress or lack thereof
  • Assist in the timely resolution of construction conflicts with innovative solutions, including warranty discrepancies
  • Assure profitability through efficient and productive field operations
  • Identify trends related to specific trade partners who are having issues on multiple projects and provide feedback to PCS and the Senior Leadership Team
  • Relationship Management
  • Regularly participate in project kick-off, OAC, Subcontractor, and other relevant meetings on a rotational basis
  • Maintain close contact with key subcontractor field managers regarding their resource loading, product quality, safety practices and awareness of Hourigan initiatives
  • Assist project partners with input on issues needing subject matter expertise
  • Develop and foster relationships with current and new trade partners and other vendors

Qualifications and Experience:

  • B.S. in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field position or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 20+ years of industry experience in general contracting
  • Previous experience leading a team and mentoring others
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience with Procore and Bluebeam preferred
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of commercial construction means, methods, materials, divisions of work, scheduling, and a thorough understanding of industry practices
