Job Description

Summary

The Senior Purchasing Lead is the site's primary purchasing representative, driving corporate cost-saving initiatives. This role oversees Indirect Purchasing, including MRO, Maintenance Services, and Stores Sourcing-along with Environmental and Construction Services, Stores Purchasing, and Capital Projects. As a key member of the Plant Management Team, the Senior Purchasing Lead leads procurement efforts that support local savings goals while advancing global synergies. Additionally, this role will manage the workload for the department and serve as the lead. Success in this role requires strategic thinking, strong leadership, and cross-functional collaboration to enhance procurement and operational efficiency.

Essential Functions

  • The Senior Purchasing Lead is responsible for ensuring that all required materials and services are sourced from suppliers who meet or exceed plant objectives, while maintaining or reducing costs and adhering to quality system requirements.
  • Manages the commercial aspects of local supply agreements and leads to the procurement of major commodities with significant financial or operational impact, leveraging local, regional, and global contracts.
  • Work with Logistics and Accounting to reconcile physical inventories and support the implementation of corporate and divisional purchasing strategies to achieve profitability and cost-reduction goals.
  • Reviews inventory usage trends, evaluates demand execution strategy and recommends, outlines or adjusts for consistent material flow
  • Coordinates long-term supply agreements that deliver consistent quarter-over-quarter savings and collaborates cross-functionally with operations.
  • Manages compliance with all business controls, ethics policies, legal requirements, and standard practices-including SOX-is essential withing the department.
  • Responsible for supplier on-time delivery, cost savings, and inventory management to support plant production goals, and require regular reporting on cost-reduction initiatives.
  • Responsible for the procurement of all supplies and inventory including stores.
  • Occasional travel may be required.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a safe, secure, and legal work environment, adhering to all Company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of the Company's information and products
  • Strong negotiator assuring continued source of supply on key commodities and support supplier's cost reduction efforts.

Education and Experience

BA or BS in Business or related major (Supply Chain, Finance, Engineering) preferred. Minimum of Five (5) years of progressive purchasing experience (Raw Materials, Capital Equipment and or Indirect) at a manufacturing company.

Special Skills

  • SM, APICS and/or Six Sigma Black/Green Belt Certification(s) are desirable. Trained and participated in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing techniques and events.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Independent, self-directed, action and results oriented, with a strong work ethic.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to make presentations.
  • Experience with SAP or similar materials management ERP system highly desired.
