Job Summary

Director for Marketing and Communications establishes and leads the overall strategy for communication, public relations, and marketing activities on behalf of a division, college, or school in line with University guidelines and goals.

  • Provides overall vision, leadership, and management of communications and marketing for the School of Public Health, School of Social Work, Academy for International Disaster Preparedness, and the Department of Dietetics and Nutrition, as well as affiliated centers and initiatives.
  • Oversees all operations, strategic initiatives, and special projects with responsibility for delivery of results.
  • Assigns, writes and/or edits all content for collateral materials, news stories, press releases, op eds, reports, and presentations. Partners with Central communications and marketing teams to promote college news at the university level.
  • Writes internal communications for the college, such as announcements, new hires, fundraising campaigns, leadership updates, and upcoming events to keep faculty and staff informed and engaged.
  • Leads the development and execution of marketing initiatives, including digital advertising, monthly newsletters, website development, collateral production, etc.
  • Writes speeches and/or talking points for unit leadership, including administrators and faculty.
  • Oversees the production of social media content for college's various channels, including Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook and X.
  • Manages a junior account manager, as well as relationships with internal and external vendors to ensure the successful execution of marketing and communications initiatives.
  • Maintains frequent contact with academic and/or administrative officers within the college and at central, establishing and fostering necessary rapport with all levels of personnel and external constituencies.
  • Conducts ongoing media trainings for college administrators and faculty, as needed.
  • Establishes and maintains reports and data collection for marketing and communications initiatives for the college.
  • Participates in the development of strategies for marketing methods to support fundraising.
  • Manages department budget for all publications and marketing.
  • Oversees communications and marketing for college events.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field with eight (8) years of experience in social media tools, marketing, and advertising or Master's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field with six (6) years of experience in social media tools, marketing, and advertising.
  • Experience in a management role having significant business impact.
Departmental Requirements

Ability to submit 3 published writing samples.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with writing for science related journals and publications.
  • Experience with writing AP Style.
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish.
