Job Summary

Campus Recreation is seeking enthusiastic students to join our Intramural Sports team as Officials. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about sports, leadership, and creating a fun, inclusive environment for participants of all skill levels. Intramural Officials play a key role in ensuring fair play, safety, and sportsmanship during our recreational leagues and tournaments. Candidates should demonstrate strong communication skills, the ability to make confident decisions under pressure, and a commitment to upholding positive behavior. Prior officiating experience is a plus but not requiredcomprehensive training is provided.

Duties include:

  • Officiate a variety of team sports (e.g., flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball) and assist with other sports/events as needed.
  • Ensure participants safety by maintaining strong knowledge of rules, policies, and procedures, as well as proper field setup and game management.
  • Promote sportsmanship and enforce rules fairly and consistently.
  • Manage on-field conflicts and ensure the safety of all participants.
  • Assist with equipment setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to participants by communicating effectively and interacting with players in a respectful, cooperative manner.
  • Attend intramural sports official training meetings, practice scrimmages, and clinics.
  • In the event of an emergency, provide appropriate emergency care and treatment until the arrival of emergency medical services.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of rules for at least one of the following sports (e.g., flag football, basketball, soccer, volleyball).
  • Strong communication and decision-making skills.
  • Punctual, dependable, and committed to excellence.
  • Willingness to learn and receive feedback.
Desired Qualifications

  • Officiating experience.
  • Past participant in intramural.
  • Leadership experience or interest in a related career field (e.g., kinesiology, education, sport management, public health).
  • Current CPR/ AED/ First Aid certification (or obtain within 30 days of hire).

Student Disclosure

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled as a student at FIU with a minimum of six (6) credits as an Undergraduate student or three (3) credits as a Graduate student during the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • During the Summer semesters, Students need only remain enrolled and are not required to take credit hours, but cannot have graduated.
  • Upon decreasing credit hours or graduating, student employment must end.
