JOB TITLE:

Technician, Senior - Electrical Engineering & Computer Science

JOB PURPOSE:
  • Provide technical support and safety supervision for laboratories in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department.
  • Manage, supervise, coordinate and evaluate all functions related to laboratory operations including the design, fabrication, maintenance and repair, and operations of the instruments used for educational and research purposes.
  • Aid students, faculty, and staff across all disciplines with electrical troubleshooting.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Maintain, operate, test, troubleshoot, design, and analyze the EECS (Electrical Engineering & Computer Science) department's laboratories, ensuring proper functionality and safety standards. Assist faculty members and researchers in conducting experiments, tests, and demonstrations. Provide technical support and guidance to students, faculty, and staff in the use of department equipment and software. Maintain an inventory of laboratory supplies, equipment, and tools, and order replacements as needed.
  • Assist in the design, construction, and modification of system prototypes and testbeds. Assist in the design, fabrication, and assembly of printed circuit boards for senior design students, graduate and faculty research.
  • Support the operations of the EECS electronics shop. Assist people outside the EECS department with electronic problems. Fabricate printed circuit boards for entities across the college and university.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a safe working environment in the laboratories. Collaborate with the department staff to develop and update laboratory manuals and procedures.

SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Complete other duties as needed that maintain the smooth operation of the EECS department.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate's degree or equivalent education and experience in Electronics Technology or a related field

Experience: 5 years work-related experience in the construction, repair and maintenance of mechanical or electronic equipment

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong written communications
  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Solid knowledge of electrical engineering principles, circuits, and systems
  • Proficiency in using electrical/computer engineering laboratory equipment, tools, and software
  • Experience working as an electrical/computer engineering technician or similar role
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience with programming languages and software tools commonly used in electrical engineering
  • Knowledge of printed circuit board (PCB) development, including soldering techniques
