Position Summary

Assists the Deans, faculty, students and other professional staff in the organization and operation of the Testing Center and/or Tutoring.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to provide first-level Learning Commons service support for students, bridging their classroom learning by assisting with the location of learning materials, resources, and equipment.
  • Able to respond to requests for general information with a commitment to customer satisfaction, quality, and accuracy.
  • Able to effectively provide appropriate referrals to other service areas.
  • Able to performs related service functions that support department operations.
  • Understands the role this position plays within the College's mission and deliver high quality service in the support of student success.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders and constituents.
  • Able to prepare periodic reports, as necessary or requested.
  • Strong commitment to providing world-class customer service.
  • Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, constantly changing work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks/responsibilities and the ability to prioritize work.

Physical Requirements

Normal physical job functions performed within a standard office environment. Requires in-person interaction and coordination of work with other employees, students, external clients, partners or customers and/or immediate access to equipment, documents, or other information located only in a College workspace. Reasonable accommodations may be made to individuals with physical challenges to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Official transcripts required.
  • Demonstrated experience at a community college with basic skills assessment and interpretation of such test results and/or tutoring experience in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Preferred:

  • Significant related experience may substitute for education.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of equivalent full-time customer service experience.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising the work of others.
  • Demonstrated experience with skills assessment testing and interpretation of test results.
  • Demonstrated experience making sound decisions that affect a work unit or team.
  • Demonstrated experience in a role requiring diverse problem-solving methods in a variety of situations.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversees the assessment and academic course testing process or tutoring services.
  • Ensures high-quality customer service is provided to all prospective students and visitors whether in person, phone, email, or online.
  • Ensures accurate administration of English, Math and ESOL academic tests to determine proper course placement.
  • Maintains correct testing procedures and record keeping for classroom, distance learning, and online testing.
  • Maintains standardized and best practices for tutoring policies, and procedures to support students and faculty.
  • Explains and issues authorizations to students and refers them to counseling or faculty as appropriate.
  • Provides routine information and directs callers/visitors to appropriate personnel and/or departments.
  • Communicates regularly with faculty and instructors on policy changes and update to procedures.
  • Ensures proper staffing during hours of operation.
  • Oversees other requested testing as required.
  • Ensures confidentiality and testing integrity.
  • Maintains the security of test storage and distribution.
  • Provides orientation and training for new staff.
  • Meets with team on a regular basis to keep them updated on new policies and procedures.
  • Manages shift changes to ensure seamless operations and high-quality customer service.
  • Oversee the tracking of departmental activity through various forms of data collection.
  • Maintains spreadsheets, files, records, staff schedules, the departmental calendar, forms, and reports records for assessment and testing as well as Ability to Benefit.
  • Supervises and assists in the control, care, and inventory of departmental property, supplies and office equipment; requests repairs as needed.
  • Supervises testing assistants, and student assistants, acting as a group leader, scheduling, assigning, and directing work, providing training, and giving input to performance evaluations.
  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year. Utilizes excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills when interacting with individuals within the Dallas College community network.
  • May provide direct supervision of tutors, including hiring, assigning, and directing work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
