JOB TITLE:

Assistant Librarian - Academic Success Librarian

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming Libraries seeks a creative, collaborative, and patron-focused librarian for the Academic Success Librarian in the Research & Outreach Services Department. This position works to support students at the beginning of their academic journey, designing curriculum, learning objects, and workshops/programming to support first- and second-year students. The Academic Success Librarian coordinates support with campus partners, and COM1 and other general education 1000/2000 level courses that support introduction to research. Additionally, the Academic Success Librarian manages the ENGL 1010 information literacy support including supervising the English Graduate Intern and a Library Specialist. The Academic Success Librarian will work to develop and articulate a strategic vision for information literacy and generative AI that prepares first and second year students to think critically, ethically, and responsibly use emerging technologies.

This role includes developing a clear understanding of the teaching, research, and scholarly communication practices in assigned liaison areas; providing research consultation and instructional support; and engaging with and communicating with liaison units on behalf of the Libraries. Collaborate with colleagues inside and outside the Research & Outreach Services Department for projects, assessment, and instruction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Coordinate outreach efforts for first- and second-year students including external partnerships, developing programming, workshops, and targeted support, including supporting student groups and organizations.
  • Serve as liaison for supporting first generation students including the First Gen Scholars, Tri Alpha First Generation Honors Society, and more
  • Coordinate and design curriculum for the ENGL 1010 information literacy instruction
  • Develop curriculum and outreach for high impact introduction courses like Public Speaking and Political Science
  • Supervise the English Graduate Intern and a Library Specialist
  • Serve as liaison with Public Services department to provide support for students within the libraries
  • Serve as the liaison librarian for assigned departments determined by incumbent's expertise and department needs and provide information literacy instruction for these departments as well as other Research & Outreach Services initiatives.
  • Develop and articulate a strategic vision for information literacy that prepares first and second year students to think critically, ethically engage with information, evaluate credibility, and responsibly use emerging technologies such as generative AI.

This position reports to the chair of Research & Outreach Services.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • ALA-accredited MLIS, MIS, or ALA-recognized equivalent by start date (December 2025 graduates are encouraged to apply)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience supporting faculty and students with consultation services
  • Experience providing instruction and/or workshops to faculty, students, and staff in an academic setting
  • Knowledge of first and second year general education curriculum support
  • Knowledge of first-generation student support
  • Knowledge of generative AI tools and principles
