The Department of Radio-Television-Film at the University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor to begin in Fall 2026. The Department is housed within the Moody College of Communication, and offers a broad range of courses in media studies, production, and screenwriting leading to B.S., M.A., M.F.A, and Ph.D. degrees. The Department of Radio-Television-Film is one of the few programs in the country that is consistently ranked in the top ten in both media studies as well as production and screenwriting. Moody College of Communication, one of the largest, most comprehensive communication colleges in the country, includes programs in Advertising and Public Relations, Communication Studies, Journalism and Media, and Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.

We are looking for faculty who conduct broad-based research in the following areas: media history and industries associated with film, television, and/or digital media. Scholars engaging with questions related to platforms, infrastructures and/or the political economy of media are encouraged to apply, as are scholars who approach these questions from global perspectives.

Candidates for this faculty position should be prepared to teach courses currently offered by the department as well as develop new courses aligned with their research interests. The Radio-Television-Film Department highlights a range of areas including film and television history and production, critical/cultural analysis, digital studies, global media, industries, screenwriting, and more.

Qualifications

Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. at the time of the appointment. Applicants should have a promising or established program of research and publication record, a commitment to teaching excellence, and an interest in advising and mentoring graduate students and undertaking collaborative research. The ability to actively pursue and secure external funding is also valued.
