General Notes

Flexible work arrangements are available in the College of Pharmacy. This position is expected to be able to work on campus at the University of Texas at Austin at least one day per week.

Purpose

The Data Analyst will support the Pharmacy Addictions Research and Medicine (PhARM) Program and the Texas Center for Outcomes Research (TxCORE) by assisting with the design, execution, and quality assurance of data-driven deliverables. This includes programming, reporting, data visualization, and analytic modeling across several funded projects. The analyst will work under the supervision of the directors of each center and collaborate with graduate students and faculty researchers on applied pharmacoepidemiology and health services research projects while providing data management and evaluation support for the Texas Opioid Training Initiative.

The analyst will play a central role in establishing reproducible workflows for the PhARM program, maintaining code quality standards, supporting student-led research projects, and contributing to the growth of a research infrastructure that includes shared code libraries, data documentation, and analytic protocols.

This is a full-time position supported by multiple funding sources. Employment is offered for one year, with the possibility of renewal contingent on continued funding and satisfactory performance. Will be occasionally required to work after hours and on weekends for events or programming.

Responsibilities
  • Lead development of analytic datasets and statistical models using large secondary administrative health data sources.

  • Create and maintain reproducible workflows, including standardized code libraries, data dictionaries, and documentation protocols.

  • Perform data visualization using R, SAS, Tableau, or Power BI to support funder reporting and scientific dissemination.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual performance reports for funders and project partners.

  • Review, refine, and provide quality assurance for statistical code written by graduate students.

  • Develop and maintain a protocol for SAS and STATA code review, version control, and QA in collaboration with PhARM and TxCORE faculty and students.

  • Assist with drafting methods and analytic sections of manuscripts, grant applications, and conference abstracts.

  • Support faculty and student research projects through technical assistance, dataset preparation, and consultation on analytic approaches.

  • Meet regularly with supervising faculty and student collaborators to ensure timely progress and accurate deliverables.

  • Contribute to a collaborative team culture focused on rigor and translation of research into practice and policy.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced training (MPH, MS, or PhD in epidemiology, biostatistics, health services research, or related field).

  • Demonstrated proficiency in SAS and STATA programming for data analysis and data management.

  • Experience working with large secondary health datasets (e.g., claims data, registries, other public health data sets).

  • Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., ggplot2, SAS ODS graphics, Tableau, or Power BI).

  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, especially for collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Additional experience and education may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience contributing to peer-reviewed publications or research reports.

  • Experience working in a collaborative academic research or public health setting.

  • Familiarity with code versioning tools (e.g., Git) and reproducibility workflows.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring graduate students.

Salary Range
  • $68,000+ depending on qualifications
