Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Athletics exists to provide educational and athletic opportunities to young men and women, to provide an environment for student-athletes to learn, advance and excel both academically and athletically, and to serve the interests of the University by complimenting and enhancing its diversity and quality of life. Through its athletic programs, the University seeks to unite alumni, faculty, administration and students in a common shared experience. The governing unit within the Department of Athletics is the Director's Office, which is the administrative office and clearinghouse for the entire Department of Athletics, and promotes the department's guiding principle of educating and inspiring through athletics. This unit provides support to administrators, coaches, staff members and student-athletes in order to provide and promote a premier intercollegiate athletic program for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Department of Athletics is a highly visible public relations arm of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, with statewide, national and international recognition. |
Position Summary |
The Director of Operations for
UNC Field Hockey is a high-level administrative and strategic position responsible for managing and advancing the operational, logistical, and developmental aspects of the program. This individual will be empowered to make independent decisions and negotiate directly with vendors and partners to optimize program operations. The role requires strategic oversight of travel, budgeting, facilities, and student-athlete support, contributing significantly to the success of the program. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related discipline; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in collegiate or professional sports operations, preferably within Olympic sports. Demonstrated success in independently managing complex travel, logistics, and financial operations. Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Knowledge of
NCAA and
ACC compliance regulations. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prefer at least 1 year in relevant independent or educational activities. |

Valid NC Driver's License |
Special Physical/Mental Requirements |
Attention to detail essential. Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced environment with sensitive deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, providing concise details and accurate information. Ability to navigate stairs. Clear understanding of working with confidential information. Ability to work non-traditional hours including evenings, weekends, and travel. Must be able to lift 25 pounds and navigate athletic facilities as needed. |
