North Wind Construction Services provides heavy civil construction services with special expertise in mine reclamation, repository construction and operation, landfill closures, and stream restoration. Operations began in northern Idaho, but have expanded to new regions including Las Vegas, Seattle, and Oak Ridge. The Construction Services team is known for the successful completion of projects in challenging conditions that are often in remote locations throughout the U.S. North Wind Construction Services is a certified 8(a) and small disadvantaged business.

POSITION PURPOSE:

This is a General Construction Laborer role with typical duties outlined below.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Builds and performs a variety of physical labor duties on commercial construction projects. Transfers from one task to another as directed.
  • Uses tools and equipment such as hand tools, handheld power tools, and small-mechanized equipment to provide labor support on a variety of construction projects.
  • Performs cleaning and site clean-up activities.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with project policies and procedures, and complies with all federal, state, and local regulations for secure and safe operation.
  • Conducts a thorough inspection of the tools and equipment assigned.
  • Safely operates tools and equipment in different configurations, as assigned.
  • Performs selective demolition.
  • Performs material handling and furniture relocation.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:


  • High School diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience performing general labor work

Skills and Abilities:


  • A clear understanding of the construction process; pride in workmanship and attention to details.
  • Ability to ask questions to understand and follow instructions.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety/code requirements.

Special Requirements:


  • Must be able to pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
  • Must have reliable transportation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Strong communications skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • Medium physical workload.
  • Employee must be able to exert up to 90 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
  • Required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading. Also required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Specific physical requirements include, but are not limited to, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing and performing repetitive motions. Maintain equilibrium to prevent falling when moving, walking, standing, kneeling or crouching - particularly on narrow, uneven, irregular, slippery surfaces, going up or down ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps poles or other objects using hands, arms, feet or legs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
Work will be a mix of indoor (demolition, furniture relocation, site clean-up, etc.) and outdoor (material handling, site clean-up, etc.). Exposure to noise levels is highly likely.
