This Position reports to:

Chapter Leader- Solution Engineering Panelboards

In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to ABB's success with technology, software, product, and system development. Each day, you will identify and implement innovative solutions to relevant problems. You will also showcase your expertise by providing ideas and by being able to work both independently and as a part of a Research & Development (R&D) team.

This role is contributes to the OEM offering for NAM Construction and Infrastructure. Develop new solutions to support the growth of the OEM channel with ABB including panelboards, breakers and switchboard offerings.

Responsibilities

  • The Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and manufacturing implementation of OEM solutions for our Panelboard product lines.
  • Design, develop, analyze, and document product designs which meet the functional, cost, reliability, manufacturability, and safety requirements of the customer or market.
  • Support engineering change orders (ECNs/ICNs) to ensure smooth implementation into production.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for all design work and present material for technical review including but not limited to tolerance loops, drawings, bill of materials, product cost, problem and action lists, risk management, and failure root cause analysis reviews
  • Execute designs with solid modeling software (PTC Creo / Windchill) to create models, assemblies, detailed drawings, and BOMs for designs which may include plastic, stamped metal, and electrically conductive parts.

Requirements

  • BS Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 3+ years in a design and/or production support engineering role
  • Experience in New Product Introduction (NPI) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) / Design for Assembly (DFA)
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze technical issues and implement effective solutions quickly
  • Self-starter. Must possess a high level of motivation and resourcefulness working in an open environment
  • Willingness to travel domestically & internationally up to 2 times per year to support manufacturing facilities or OEM customers
  • Experience with Bill of Materials (BOMs) generation & PTC Creo (or similar CAD tools)
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proven ability to influence and drive change/results

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in Mechanical design related to electrical components or equipment
  • Knowledge of certification standards for electrical equipment (UL, IEC, IEEE)
  • Previous experience with automated generation of Bill of Materials (BOMs)
  • Proven record of engineering analysis and design execution success
  • Lighting Panel, Power Panel, or Switchboard mechanical design and testing experience
