What you will do Your role is key within the Johnson Controls Transportation Center of Excellence (CoE) for North America, supporting multiple internal businesses (PBU's) with $250m of freight spend in the region. As part of the CoE transportation planning team, you will be responsible to optimize inbound and outbound loads across multiple modes for domestic and international shipments using a Transportation Management System (OTM) platform to deliver a seamless logistics experience to internal and external customers. How you will do it
Plan, schedule and ensure the timely delivery of the company's freight to a multi-regional geographic area using Oracle Transportation Management System (OTM). Responsible for the tendering loads, monitoring of planned loads and subsequent ownership of loads for assigned areas. Apply network balance capacity tools to determine location of trucks and available customer/supplier loads, tailor planning to meet PBUs needs. Understand daily capacity demand and pro-actively communicate to appropriate leadership Provide Logistics support by efficiently communicating shipment details between plants, brands, suppliers, customers and carriers for cost effective on-time deliveries for all modes. Responsible for carrier updates, customer requirements, route planning and overall system maintenance within OTM. Develops the most cost-effective method to transport shipments by identifying opportunities to create milkruns, multi-stop deliveries, LTL volume shipments and order/shipment consolidations. Performs necessary updates and resolves data integration issues between PBU OTM, ERP, & WMS systems. Identify the root cause of shipment issues and develop alternative solutions for current and future purposes. Seeks and utilizes accurate freight bill data and makes corrections to account code and allocations that cause some distortion to our freight records or cost allocations. Remains abreast of logistics best practices and is proactive in exploring application to our business. Monitors carrier performance and develops meaningful metrics for process and service improvement opportunities. Learns and applies knowledge and guidance regarding import/export laws, customs and duties, and related regulations such as NAFTA and HazMat. Consults and teaches policy and procedures for logistics activities for use by plants, suppliers and distribution centers. Helps maintains SOPs, guidelines and supporting logistics information for users. Resolves problems concerning transportation, systems, import/export, and customer issues that arise on a regular basis between internal and external parties. Provides frequent, close collaboration with third party service providers of transportation services including, freight forwarding, export packaging, customs, security and export controls. Researches and evaluates alternative processes and systems to assess their benefit and applicability to current logistics practices and business needs within the company. Evaluates and/or prepares relevant cost comparisons and supplier performance reports to support strategic plans. Works closely with the Logistics Procurement team to provide research and cost modeling for negotiating rates with carriers to fully use the resources and leverage of JCI spend across the other business divisions and, if possible, regions. Assists in monitoring and managing transportation expense budget, including third party services and consulting fees. Proposes and directs ongoing cost reduction and improvement projects and maintain development status in the Procurement-Financial Project Tracker.
What we look for Required
Bachelor's Degree in supply chain management, transportation, logistics, business, or related field preferred; relevant work experience also considered. Minimum of 3 years of logistics analyst or planning experience in a manufacturing or procurement environment. 1-3 years' experience with Oracle Transportation Management and ERPs (JDE-SAP) Thorough knowledge of the freight industry, including TL, LTL, Ocean, and parcel Some knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) Interstate Commerce Commission (ICC) rules and regulations. Ability to plan, think ahead, and prepare action plans to achieve results Requires creative problem-solving skills and strong analytical abilities Good verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills in persuasion, negotiation, conflict resolution and teamwork.
