Job Description

Washington Gas is seeking a GIS Specialist who will perform a crucial role in managing and analyzing geographic data, creating maps, visualizations, and providing technical support for GIS projects and users.You must have a strong understanding of GIS principles, software, and data management practices to ensure data accuracy and accessibility for various projects and stakeholders. This is a hybrid-position based out of our Springfield Operations Center. Candidates are required to work on-site a minimum of 3 days a week.

Your Role & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the companywide GIS system by utilizing Esri Utility Network Model and Linear Referencing tools.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure GIS system supports the needs of all business units.
  • Manage and utilize GIS resources to collect, analyze, and present spatial data in the form of maps and graphic reports.
  • Collaborate with internal and external teams/customers to ensure all work is completed accurately and within assigned deadlines.
  • Assist with the design and usage of ArcGIS models and Applications.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of cartographic designs using internal and external datasets.
  • Identifies and recommends process improvements for the team and the business.

Your Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geography, or another related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience working in GIS field required.
  • Understand how to manage and maintain data within an Enterprise Solution.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to analyze spatial data and generate solutions.
  • Experience designing digital maps with geographic data and various other data sets.
  • Ability to analyze spatial data through the use of geospatial data sets, tools, and programs.
  • Ability to manipulate and convert multiple dataset types for integration into the GIS system.
  • Maintains knowledge of GIS technologies and usages within the industry.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Utility Network Model.
  • Experience in implementation and use of Esri ArcGIS Enterprise including Linear Referencing.
  • Working knowledge of engineering drawings, field notes, and as-builts.
  • Working knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations desired.
  • Demonstrated understanding of relevant regulations, e.g. DOT 192, damage prevention laws, etc., preferred.
  • Ability to utilize ArcGIS models using Python and VB, and Arcade.
  • Knowledge of underground Gas utilities.

We offer a competitive salary range of $62,000 to $90,500 per year, commensurate with experience, education, and skills. In addition, we provide a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
