HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION The Social Media Content Strategist is a creative and analytical social media professional dedicated to developing, curating, and optimizing platform-specific social media content that drives brand and mission-driven storytelling, audience engagement, and supports broader organizational objectives through innovative content creation and data-driven performance insights. Reports to the Director of Social Media.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Content Strategy & Planning: Creates and concepts strategic social media content calendars and campaigns across all social channels, incorporating research-driven insights and exploring innovative content formats and trends across social media, science & education, and pop culture to align with business goals and brand mission.
- Content Creation: Develops and executes platform-specific content strategies, creating diverse day-to-day content across all social media channels. Includes developing ideas, gathering content, writing stories, and creating compelling photo and video series and assets.
- Copywriting & Brand Voice Curation: Develops and refines a holistic social brand voice and crafts platform-optimized, compelling copy that resonates across all social channels. Seamlessly blends the organization's overarching messaging framework with social media best practices and ownable perspectives and expertise, ensuring consistent, engaging communication across all social channels.
- Campaign Integration: Collaborates and coordinates with internal teams, agencies, and external partners to align on social media content for conservation initiatives, wildlife storytelling, drive action campaigns, etc, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Provides optimization insights and recommendations across all channels and platforms, including paid media and organic boosting efforts.
- Reporting & Insights: Utilizes analytical software and tools to measure, manage and report on social media content performance metrics, such as reach, impressions, conversions, trends, and storytelling impact, to optimize future strategies.
- Filming & On-Site Production: Provides social media creative guidance and on-site content creation support during events and filming, collaborating with production teams to ensure brand-aligned content.
- Strategic Synergy: Collaborates closely with the full social media team to support audience interaction strategies through content-driven initiatives, helping to determine what constitutes success. Provides support for influencer collaborations, community management, crisis communications, etc, as needed.
- Other Duties as Assigned: Stays ahead of emerging content technologies and platforms, adapting strategies to meet organizational needs. May include, but not limited to: facilitating cross-departmental social media training, drafting social media policies, speaking at industry conferences, executive thought leadership, competitive analysis projects, social SEO optimization, etc. Allocations may shift based on organizational needs.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
An exceptional writer and storyteller excited about developing impactful campaigns that connect audiences with wildlife conservation. Proactive, detail-oriented, and adaptable, able to weave pop culture references and storytelling into data-driven messaging that drives engagement. Curious and creative, with a talent for exploring new trends, translating complex concepts into accessible insights, and crafting compelling content. Background in or passion for wildlife conservation; professional agency experience a plus.
JOB EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 3+ years experience working professionally in social media required
- Intermediate photography and videography skills preferred
EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Humanities, Social Sciences, Public Relations, Communications, History, or a related field or equivalent specialized training required
- California Driver's License required
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
- Strong working knowledge of social media channels, trends, tools, strategies, and tactics.
- Professional writing ability.
- Able to communicate effectively with a high level of tact and diplomacy.
- Knowledge of copyediting for social media.
- Knowledge of photography and videography for social media.
- Able to operate moderately complex computer software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Able to operate Wordpress.
- Able to operate Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong working knowledge of content creation and marketing/brand best practices.
- Marketing strategy.
- Work effectively with others in a diverse environment.
- Negotiate effectively.
- Knowledge of social media influencer/creator management.
