Summary: The University of Vermont Medical Center is seeking an experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our cardiology team in a per diem capacity. Primary coverage needs are with inpatient cardiology services, with a focus on general cardiology, interventional, and electrophysiology (EP) patients. Occasional outpatient coverage may be required. You will be practicing within a supportive, team-based environment, partnering with cardiologists, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to deliver high-quality, coordinated care. Key Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, echocardiograms, stress tests). Manage and monitor chronic cardiac conditions such as heart failure, arrhythmias, and coronary artery disease Initiate, adjust, and monitor medications in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and scope of practice. Provide patient education on lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, risk factor management, and disease prevention. Coordinate care across specialties and services, including pre- and post-procedure follow-up, referrals, and testing. Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
Experience:
At least two years of clinical experience as an NP/PA required. Prior experience in cardiology or internal medicine strongly required. Due to the independent and varied requirements of this role, new graduates are not able to be considered.
Education and Licensure: For the PA:
Active or pending VT State Physician Assistant license in good standing Completion of an ARC-PA accredited educational program Current NCCPA certification required BLS and ACLS certification required DEA registration for prescriptive authority required
For the NP:
Active or pending VT State APRN license in good standing Completion of a CCNE or ACEN accredited educational program Current AANP or ANCC certification required. BLS and ACLS certification required DEA registration for prescriptive authority required
