Genesis10 is seeking a Mechanical Engineer II. This is a 12+ month onsite contract position with a technology client in Erie, PA.
Compensation: $55.00 - 65.00 per hour, depending on skill and experience level.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the mechanical design and thermal management of power and control electronics used in the electric drive systems of industrial transportation products, including locomotives and surface mining trucks.
- Work closely with engineering teams to design, analyze, procure, manufacture, and test power electronics devices and high voltage control groups.
- Lead and execute the validation and qualification of new electrical equipment, components, and assemblies, with a focus on mechanical and thermal performance.
- Perform detailed thermal analysis of electronics cooling, predicting device operating temperatures through simulation.
- Perform finite element stress analysis on electrical panels based on defined load cases.
- Develop engineering concept models to support concept tradeoffs and FEA.
- Responsible for defined work or projects with moderate to high complexity. Follow an individual work plan and meet day-to-day short-term objectives.
- Display the ability to resolve issues through immediate action or short-term planning.
- Support multiple work assignments by establishing, maintaining, and working priorities.
- Prepare and present technical data to internal customers.
- Share information and promote open dialogue.
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field.
- 5+ years demonstrated experience in the field of electrical, mechanical, packaging, and thermal design.
- Proficient in NX and ANSYS.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Designing power electronics modules for inverter and rectifier application
- Designing mechanical enclosures for electrical equipment assemblies for shock and vibration loads.
- Design of sheet metal fabrications.
- Designing cast and molded components.
- Design of machined and fabricated components.
- Experience with heat transfer through conduction, natural convection, and forced convection applications and related techniques for electronics.
- GD&T and weld specifications on drawings.
- Must be able to work in and around large pieces of ground transportation equipment, in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting, and in a heavy industrial laboratory environment.
- Must be able to set up instrumentation and test apparatus and conduct validation testing on large industrial transportation and mining vehicles.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Proficient in ANSYS Icepak, CFD fluid and thermal analysis skills, Matlab software tools
- Familiarity with power diodes and IGBT devices and packaging design considerations in large equipment inverter arrangements.
- Knowledge of voltage isolation and current conduction in buss bars, terminals and connectors.
- Experience with air cooled heat sink design and heat spreaders
- Experience with liquid cold plate design, liquid cooled system design, and liquid cooled system design for electronics thermal management
- Experience with heat pipe design, application, and simulation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of statistical analysis or Six Sigma certified.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
