Temple University's ITS Department is searching for a Solutions Engineer 3!

Position Summary

This position provides technical expertise and administrative support for hosting services, with a focus on cloud-native workloads, virtualized environments, server automation, and lifecycle management. The ideal candidate is a technically skilled professional with a strong understanding of Kubernetes administration, server build automation, and distributed systems management, including expertise in Windows, RedHat, and Oracle environments. This role is integral to ensuring the efficient operation and optimization of infrastructure services across the University. Performs other duties as assigned.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES A BACKGROUND CHECK:

Required Education and Experience:

*Bachelor's degree and at least 4 years of related technical experience.

*Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms like VMware and hyperconverged systems.

*Experience managing on-premises and cloud-based data center services, including provisioning, support, maintenance, and data protection.

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Proficiency in cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP, with a focus on Kubernetes and containerized workloads.

*Advanced knowledge of Windows, RedHat, and Oracle server administration.

*Expertise in scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash).

*Strong understanding of disaster recovery concepts and high-availability solutions.

*Familiarity with ITIL concepts, security best practices, and compliance standards.

*Ability to provide after-hours support on an on-call basis for emergencies, as a shared responsibility with the rest of the team. This includes occasional nights, weekends, and holidays

Preferred Skills & Abilities:

*Experience with directory services such as Active Directory, Azure AD, or LDAP.

*Exposure to CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and configuration management tools.

*Strong track record in managing and supporting complex infrastructure projects.

Essential Functions:

*Infrastructure Administration:

Manage on-premises and cloud-based data center services, including provisioning, support, maintenance, and data protection.

* Perform server lifecycle management tasks, including base builds, provisioning, updates, and decommissioning.

* Administer virtualized environments using VMware and hyperconverged infrastructure platforms.

*Cloud and Kubernetes Administration:

* Deploy, manage, and maintain Kubernetes clusters and workloads across cloud and on-premises environments.

* Support cloud-native application hosting to ensure high availability, scalability, and security.

* Integrate Kubernetes with monitoring, automation, and configuration management tools.

*Server Build Automation and Configuration:

* Design, implement, and maintain automated server build and configuration processes using tools like PowerShell, CLI scripting, and orchestration frameworks.

* Optimize server configurations to meet performance, security, and compliance standards.

* Support and manage environments across Windows, RedHat, and Oracle platforms.

*Enterprise Monitoring and Disaster Recovery:

* Implement and manage enterprise monitoring systems, ensuring alerts and resolutions are effectively tracked.

* Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for core infrastructure, applications, and data.

* Ensure continuous improvement in infrastructure monitoring and alerting capabilities.

*Technical Solutions Design:

* Develop solutions for integrated applications and infrastructure services based on principles of security, scalability, and high availability.

* Design system architecture diagrams that optimize data and application flow.

* Introduce process automation to improve efficiency and reduce manual workloads.

*Stakeholder Collaboration and Project Support:

* Coordinate with IT teams across the University to align project efforts and ensure timely delivery of critical infrastructure services.

* Manage product and service lifecycles, defining roadmaps and enhancements based on operational needs.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.

Salary Range: $70,000 - $105,000
