Summary: Our Flow Cytometry Technologist performs high complexity testing including staining for immunophenotyping of leukemia and lymphoma, PNH, and other flow cytometry testing. The technician I is responsible for the technical components in the laboratory including processing and acquisition of blood; bone marrow; tissue; fine needle aspirates and body fluids. The technologist I will interact with pathologists along with other flow cytometry team members to assist in efficient and consistent operations within the flow cytometry laboratory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Appropriate panels run for patient history/request.
  • Ensure quality throughout sample handling and data acquisition without sample labeling errors, incorrect tube order, or other sample prep errors
  • Accurately analyzes flow cytometry data using Kaluza or other analysis software.
  • Meets departmental goals for other metrics such as billing.
  • Timely completion of assigned proficiency testing according to SOP and instructions.
  • Respond to emails in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Accurately adds testing requests.
  • Pass all assigned departmental competency assessments and completes tasks timely.
  • Communicate outstanding issues promptly and effectively.
  • Properly documents maintenance items on logs. Documents QC and troubleshooting properly.
  • Actively monitors all workload spreadsheets and worklists and accurately handles distribution of heme cases to correct pathologists.
  • Actively participates in continuing education and achieves at least the minimum CE required. Uses downtime wisely.
  • Maintain current certification requirements (if necessary) by accreditation body.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures.
  • Keep benches stocked, clean, and organized.
  • Actively participates in Inventory Control processes including new lot/new shipment procedures.
  • Participates in QIR/QA process and documentation.
  • Initiates and completes pre-approved performance improvement projects.
  • Participates in instruction or other departmental training.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory, Chemical/Physical/Biological Science required
  • NCA CLSp (Hematology) or MT(ASCP), MLS or MLSCM, CLS(NCA), Qualified in Cytometry. (ASCP), SCYM (ASCP)cm or other specialty certification.
  • 2+ years' experience in a laboratory specialty or generalist position.
  • 2+ years' experience in the flow cytometry specialty, highy preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Advanced competency with flow cytometry instrumentation preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of leukemia and lymphoma immunophenotyping analysis and blood cell morphology preferred.
  • Experience in clinical hematology procedures or flow cytometry specialty preferred.
  • Ability to work with individuals at all organizational levels, including peers, team members, supervisors, managers, and other departments.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-directed, open to new learning experiences.
  • Ability to multitask while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated competency with personal computers for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation software required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.

Pay Range: $30.15 - 43.72 USD Hourly

The amounts listed are the base pay range; additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities. Generally, new hire offers will be between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range, depending on experience (DOE), with the ability to grow within the range over time.
