Summary: The Quality Team Leader (QTL) is responsible for leading daily quality activities, supporting process discipline, driving corrective action execution, and fostering a culture of quality excellence in alignment with company metrics and Power Solutions International's (PSI) IMPACT values: Innovation, Motivation, Passion, Accountability, Communication, Trust. Essential Responsibilities:
- Train, coach, and mentor Quality Technicians and frontline production staff on quality procedures, product standards, and audit protocols. Establish performance expectations, evaluate execution, and ensure compliance with internal and external quality requirements
- Lead Tier 4/5 Quality Reviews using the Business Plan Deployment (BPD) Cube. Drive Built-In-Quality practices, facilitate team-based root cause analysis, and champion structured problem-solving tools (5 Whys, Ishikawa, A3, etc.)
- Facilitate or participate in Kaizen and Continuous Improvement Events, with a focus on defect reduction, process capability, poka-yoke (mistake-proofing), and prevention-based quality control
- Investigate internal and external quality issues, collaborating with cross-functional teams. Lead the implementation of Initial Corrective Actions (ICAs) and Permanent Corrective Actions (PCAs) using a data-driven and systemic approach (8D, DMAIC, etc.)
- Perform Process and Layered Process Audits (LPA) to verify conformance to Standardized Work, identify systemic gaps, and validate process controls that ensure customer requirements are consistently met
- Support the development and revision of Standardized Work, Control Plans, and Visual Aids in collaboration with the Core Team Leaders and the Quality/Industrial Engineering teams. Maintain Operator Certification and Flex Charts from a quality compliance perspective
- Own quality data integrity in Epicor by ensuring proper tracking of nonconformances, scrap, rework, and Quality Alerts. Monitor Kanban accuracy from a defect-prevention and traceability standpoint
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Lean teams to implement quality-focused process improvements and validate effectiveness via key performance indicators such as First Pass Yield (FPY), Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ), and PPM (Parts Per Million)
- Enforce and promote safety and quality practices, including adherence to PPE requirements, proper use of inspection equipment (calipers, torque wrenches, etc.), and safe material handling practices (including up to 40 lbs with team lifting when required)
- Perform other quality-related duties as assigned by Quality Management
Qualifications
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED required; post-secondary training in Quality, Manufacturing, or Engineering preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in Quality Assurance/Control, preferably in a ISO-compliant environment.
- Experience using quality tools and inspection equipment (micrometers, gauges, torque devices, calipers, etc.).
- Strong understanding of corrective action methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, PDCA, etc.)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience using ERP systems such as Epicor is preferred.
- Ability to create and update Standardized Work Instructions and Process Control Documents
