SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

The Director of Commercial Strategy Development serves as a key architect of Amtrak's commercial planning framework, translating enterprise goals into actionable strategies across service lines. This role leads the development of long-term and annual commercial strategies, integrating inputs from pricing, marketing, customer experience, service planning, and finance to ensure alignment with Adjusted Operating Income (AOI), ridership, and customer satisfaction targets.

The Director will work cross-functionally and cross-divisionally to shape and challenge commercial assumptions, support state partnerships, and drive strategic initiatives that enhance route-level profitability and service delivery. This role is pivotal in embedding commercial discipline and ensuring strategic alignment across Amtrak's Long Distance, Northeast Corridor, and State Supported service lines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

* Lead a team of strategy professionals in developing and implementing commercial strategies across service lines using a holistic P&L lens inclusive of cost management
* Own and manage the annual and seasonal planning calendar, including AOI bridge templates and planning workshops.
* Develop and maintain 5-year commercial vision and translate it into annual plans.
* Partner with service line leaders and state partners to co-create route-level strategies and corridor development plans.
* Develop frameworks for prioritizing initiatives ready for advancement.
* Represent Amtrak in external forums such as SAIPRC and other stakeholder engagements.
* Present strategic plans and performance updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Engineering, or related field.
* Proven experience in strategic planning, business development, and stakeholder engagement.
* Strong analytical skills with experience in financial modeling and performance measurement.
* Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and manage complex matrix environments.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

* Master's degree in Business Administration.
* 10+ years of experience in commercial strategy, planning, or consulting, preferably in transportation or network-based industries.
* Experience working with regulators and external partners.
* Familiarity with behavior-based safety cultures and enterprise performance frameworks.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

* Frequent use of computer and office equipment.
* Regular interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
* Occasional travel required for stakeholder meetings and corridor planning sessions.

COMMUNICATIONS AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.

The salary/hourly range is $163,000-$211,140, Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, internal equity, etc. Depending on an employee's assigned worksite or location, Amtrak may consider a geo-pay differential to be applied to the employee's base salary. Amtrak may offer additional incentive and pay programs to recognize and reward our employees, including a short-term incentive bonus based upon factors such as individual and company performance that is commensurate with the level of the position and/or long-term incentive plan compensation. In accordance with federal law governing security checks of covered individuals for providers of public transportation (Title 6 U.S.C. *1143), Amtrak is required to screen applicants for any permanent or interim disqualifying criminal offenses.
