Job Summary:

The Assistant Director of Career Enhancement and Employer Relations works directly with the Assistant Athletic Director for Career Enhancement and Employer Relations to prepare student-athletes for their professional life after sport and to strengthen the Northwestern Athletics network. This position works extensively with student-athletes to assist with their career development and job search process through individual counseling, coaching, and mentoring, and will provide comprehensive search preparation for students based on their post-graduation goals. Additionally, this position directs and executes career-based events, workshops and industry-specific learning sessions.

*Willingness and ability to work a non-traditional schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays as required.*

Specific Responsibilities:

Student-athlete career coaching:

  • Provide specialized professional development assistance to Northwestern student-athletes including critiquing resumes, conducting mock interviews, developing networking strategies, assessing career goals as well as guiding student-athletes on long and short term career strategy action plan development.

Directing, planning and implementing student-athlete specific career programming:

  • Responsible for ideation, implementation and execution of most Kabiller NU for Life student-athlete facing programs (freshmen, sophomores, seniors)
  • Experience workshops and any additional programming designated while assisting in execution of the annual Wildcat Professional Excellence Program (WPEP) for junior student-athletes.
  • Works closely with the Assistant AD for Career Enhancement and Employer Relations to continually revamp and tweak the four-year student-athlete curriculum.
  • Oversee planning of industry-specific programming
  • Oversee Kabiller NU for Life student-athlete advisory board, inclusive of running meetings and maximizing the group's impact.

Kabiller NU for Life mentoring program:

  • Oversee and grow Kabiller NU for Life mentoring program, serving as the liaison between the athletic department, mentors and mentees.
  • Assist the Assistant AD for Career Enhancement and Employer Relations in supporting/developing team specific mentoring programs

Marketing and Communications:

  • Manage the Kabiller NU for Life website, providing fresh content and generating new ideas for reader engagement. This includes working closely with the video and athletic communications departments to ensure consistent branding across all platforms.
  • Spearhead all social media activity, including maintaining the Kabiller NU for Life Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn pages. This includes creating new content and keeping up on current trends in the career development arena.
  • Support Assistant Athletics Director with employer and alumni interactions and engagement opportunities.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules,
  • regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
  • Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.

Miscellaneous

Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Three years' experience in the field of intercollegiate athletics, higher education, recruiting or human resources.
  • Excellent interpersonal, relationship building, and communication skills
  • Exceptional presentation skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
  • Experience in event management, organization and attention to detail
  • Understanding of the student-athlete experience
  • Sound knowledge of career strategizing and advising
  • Ability to lead volunteers
  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred
  • Master's degree preferred
  • Former student-athlete experience preferred

Target hiring range for this position will be between $56,782 to $58,000 per year. Offered salary will be determined by the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
