JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, leads and performs inspections, cleaning, maintenance and operation of pump stations, odor control facilities, combined sewer overflow facilities, automated regulators, rain gauges, remote flow and level monitoring stations, interceptors, combined sewer overflows, retention basins, treatment plant tanks, other sewer lines and facilities. Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Leads and performs in the work of a crew engaged in the inspection and maintenance of interceptors, storm and sanitary sewers and related appurtenances. - Operates a variety of sewer inspection and cleaning equipment to maintain The District's sewerage collection system. - Maintains and repairs television inspection system components, combination machines, rodding machines and other sewer maintenance equipment, such as blowers, winches and generators; maintains records on condition of equipment and repair work performed on same. - Operates pneumatic and hydraulic equipment, pumps, compressors, power activated tools, boats, valves and motors. - Performs general housekeeping work, requisition materials and equipment. - Keeps vehicles and related equipment in good clean operating condition. - Performs investigative work as required. - Performs operational duties and routine maintenance on various operating systems, including chemical feed systems and other process equipment. - Checks and records meters, chart readings and flow dials. - Obtains samples for lab analysis. - Inspects to insure proper operation and assist with the maintenance and repair of pump stations, odor control facilities, combined sewer overflows, automated regulators, rain gauges and remote flow and level monitoring stations. - Maintains records and prepares reports; maintains catalogs and files of videotapes, records and areas inspected. - Observes safe work practices and ensures that work does not endanger others. - Performs other duties of a similar nature as may be required. MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION - Candidate must possess a High school diploma or it's GED Equivalent. EXPERIENCE - Candidate must possess three (3) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems. OTHER REQUIREMENTS LICENSURE AND CERTIFICATIONS - Candidate must possess a Class II Wastewater Collection System License or a Wastewater Works Operator II License, or higher issued by the State of Ohio, either at time of appointment to the position or within thirty-six (36) months from the effective start date. If the candidate does not have either of the above licenses at the time of job entry, the candidate must obtain either license within thirty-six (36) months from being placed in the position. At the minimum the employee must successfully meet the following: During each twelve (12) month period of the thirty-six (36) months, the employee must take the required Wastewater certification examination(s) and must receive a score of at least 25% by the end of the first consecutive twelve (12) months, a score of at least 50% by the end of the second consecutive twelve (12) months, and must successfully obtain the required Wastewater Certification by the end of the third consecutive twelve (12) months. - Candidate must possess a valid driver's license with a driving record in accordance with the District's acceptable guidelines. - Candidate must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class "A" with tanker endorsement "N" and no air brake restriction, either at time of appointment to the position or prior to completion of the 90-day probationary period. - Candidate must obtain a certificate of completion of the Red Cross Standard Multimedia First Aid Course and C.P.R. certification within one year of employment and be recertified as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Candidate must possess knowledge in the operation and servicing of a variety of motor vehicle equipment, considerable knowledge of tools, equipment, materials, methods and the modern techniques commonly used in sewer maintenance activities, and considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions. - Candidate must possess considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions. The successful candidate must have the ability to understand and follow verbal, written and diagrammatic instructions, the ability to use a variety of hand and power tools, must also possess operation of automotive and heavy equipment; and the effective use of equipment and tools of the trade skills. - Candidate must possess the ability to be reliable and punctual in reporting to work as scheduled. - Candidate must be able and capable to fill-in for vacant shifts, emergency or unusual situations. PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS - Candidate must possess the ability to pull a minimum of 80 pounds dead weight from the bottom of a twenty-foot manhole and remove a standard size manhole cover, which could weigh between 175 to 275 pounds, and the ability to do strenuous manual work under varying weather conditions. - In this position the employee may be exposure to usual noise associated with equipment, will be exposed to odors from processes and laboratory field samples, will be exposure to atmospheric conditions such as heat, cold, dust, fumes, vapors, or mists, will work in various types of confined spaces, such as, wet wells and manholes, and will work on elevated locations, such as, aerial sewers, ladders and rooftops. - The successful candidate must not have tendencies toward claustrophobia or acrophobia. Employees in this classification must not have facial hair that would impede the wearing of a District required respirator, 100% of the time.
