OVERVIEW
Merrick & Company is seeking motivated students currently enrolled in a high school, technical school, or community college drafting, design, or engineering program to join our paid Civil Designer Apprenticeship Program beginning Fall 2025 at our Greenwood Village, CO headquarters. This is a unique opportunity to work on impactful client projects involving natural areas, infrastructure, land development, water systems, sustainable energy, and more-while gaining hands-on experience and one-on-one mentorship from seasoned professionals. The apprenticeship is designed to last approximately 18 months to 2 years, providing a strong foundation in civil engineering design and CAD drafting. Typical pay range for this position is $21.92 - $23.17 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As an apprentice, you will:
- Support small design teams in creating exhibits, plans, and construction documents.
- Gain exposure to various engineering disciplines, including:
- Site Civil Design
- Water/Wastewater Systems
- Process Piping
- Erosion Control
- Grading and Drainage
- GIS Modeling
- Work with design tools such as Civil 3D, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Receive direct mentorship from experienced designers and project leaders.

- Produce technical drawings and models using CAD software.
- Assist in the preparation of civil construction design plans.
- Create linework, annotations, legends, and notes based on input from senior designers.
- Revise existing drawings and complete redlines.
- Follow established CAD and project standards.
- Complete assignments with guidance and quality checks from a mentor or supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 0-2 years of experience.
- Must be pursuing an Associate Degree - Drafting/Design, Graphic Design or Technical College Certification or Equivalent Experience from high school CAD and engineering program.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with CAD software programs AutoCAD and Revit.
- Experience with other solid modeling software such as CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, or CADWorx.
- Understanding of basic drawing generation and layout.
