JOB TYPE Classification: Non-exempt Supervises Positions: Yes JOB SUMMARY The Public Safety Sergeant (Unarmed) applies the job skills necessary to provide a safe and secure environment for improving the health of our communities. Security: Provides a safe and secure environment at all facilities.
Investigations: Investigates suspicious activities and takes appropriate action.
Professional Competency: Enforces applicable federal, state, and local laws as they relate to public safety.
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Experience:Internal Candidates: 3 years of satisfactory experience as a Public Safety Officer/Corporal (Armed/Unarmed) at a UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper hospital or facility required. External Candidates: Minimum of 3 years of public safety experience at a supervisory level. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details. Licensure: IAHSS Basic and Advanced Training Certification required. IAHSS Supervisory Certification within 1year required.BLS/CPR required within 90 days of hire and maintained throughout employment. CPI certification required within 6 months of hire maintained throughout employment. Must qualify for and maintain a North Carolina Private Protective Service Board Armed Security Officer Registration Permit in accordance with annual training and qualification standards established by UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper.Maintains valid driver's license in the state of residence. Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Public contact experience. Satisfactorily completes all required organizational and departmental basic, field, and in-service training programs including the Corporate Public Safety Training Plan. Basic computer skills. Ability to successfully complete generic and department-specific skills validation and competency testing. Ability to accurately receive and transmit information by radio and telephone. Ability to translate observations and information into legible, complete, and accurate reports. No criminal record. Maintains compliance with the UVA Health Northern VA & Culpeper Vehicle Use Policy (NHLDFM-3). Immediately notifies Director of Public Safety or Public Safety Manager of any and all charges relating to the operation of a motor vehicle and/or criminal complaint. Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Security, law enforcement or military experience. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Physical Demand Code: 24A, Security Work Function/Activity: Medium to Heavy Physical Demand The job requires standing and walking constantly and frequently bending/stooping. Frequent repetitive body movements. Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
