Job Summary

#CA-DS

Responsible for supervising the Customer Service Department, optimizing daily operations, and enhancing team performance through training and support. Ensures compliance with AB 1020 and the No Surprises Act, while maintaining high service standards. Oversees vendor relations with ClearBalance, manages patient complaint resolutions, and monitors over 40 SBO workqueues. Approves AR adjustments and uses performance data to drive continuous improvement in patient experience.

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position.

  • Bachelor's degree in related area or equivalent experience or training
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in patient billing, collections, or revenue cycle operations within a healthcare setting.
  • Strong understanding of insurance claims processing, denials management, and patient account resolution.
  • Supervisory or Leadership Experience At least 1-2 years in a supervisory or team lead role, overseeing billing or collections staff. Proven ability to coach, mentor, and manage performance of team members. Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge
  • Demonstrated supervisory, organizational, and customer service skills to effectively supervise and prioritize the activities of subordinate staff, and to manage the complex workflow and multiple priorities involved with billing and / or collections operations.
  • Solid leadership skills to coach and improve staff performance. Ability to provide thorough and accurate review of complex subordinate work and to oversee coordination of ongoing tasks and projects over extended periods of time.
  • Skilled in written and verbal communications, with the ability to serve as a resource, to convey complex clinical finance and business information in a clear and concise manner, and to prepare and present a variety of reports and analyses.
  • Computer proficiency in all relevant hardware, software, and specialty information systems used throughout the department. Ability to synthesize data and utilize computerized systems to produce meaningful reports on department operations.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyze and evaluate complex and difficult problems, determine appropriate level of intervention, and develop and apply solutions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Healthcare Revenue Cycle Experience Familiarity with healthcare regulations such as HIPAA, AB 1020, and the No Surprises Act. Experience ensuring compliance with payer guidelines and internal policies.
  • Technical Proficiency Proficient in using electronic health record (EHR) systems (Epic) and billing software. Skilled in Microsoft Excel and reporting tools for tracking productivity and performance metrics.
  • Customer Service and Communication Experience handling escalated patient billing inquiries and resolving complaints professionally.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, and leadership.
  • Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills Ability to analyze billing trends, identify root causes of issues, and implement process improvements. Experience with productivity tracking and performance reporting.
  • Knowledge In-depth understanding of healthcare billing and collections processes, including insurance claims, denials, and patient account management.
  • Familiarity with federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, AB 1020, and the No Surprises Act. Knowledge of payer guidelines, reimbursement methodologies, and revenue cycle best practices. Proficiency in using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner) and billing software.
  • Understanding of financial reporting, AR reconciliation, and productivity metrics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify trends, resolve billing issues, and improve processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, staff, and leadership. Leadership and team management skills, including coaching, performance evaluation, and conflict resolution.
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, for data analysis and reporting.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team to meet departmental goals and service standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex billing regulations and payer requirements.
  • Ability to handle sensitive patient information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments such as Patient Relations, Risk Management, and Compliance.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in regulations, technology, and organizational priorities.
