The Formulation Scientist is a lab bench position at our St. Paul, MN facility. The role will contribute to product development and modification of existing products following established project plans by utilizing analytical techniques for characterization of raw materials and their impact on formulations; analyzing data, and communicating findings and results to the project lead. The individual in this role will need to understand and follow Design and Development protocols per AS9100 Quality System (Aerospace) and abide by EH&S regulations and business conduct policies and procedures.

Travel Requirement

  • Initial Training Period: 90-95% travel for the first 3-6 months for onboarding and training.

  • Ongoing: After the initial period, travel will be approximately 5-10%.

Primary Responsibilities

  • 70% - R&D lab activity including formulation, product characteristic testing, and data analysis.
  • 20% - Operations support including working with production batches, writing procedures, troubleshooting, and QC failure testing.

  • 10% - Supporting QC including writing test sheets, procedures, work instructions, testing processes, and working with SAP to enter data and quality requirements for batches.

  • Modify existing products to meet aerospace specifications.

  • Follow Design and Development processes.

  • Provide analysis of data and apply statistical data analysis (DOE).

  • Communicate project progress to Technical Manager.

  • Use analytical techniques for characterization of raw materials.

Minimum Requirements

  • B.S. in chemistry, chemical engineering, or related discipline.

  • At least 3 years of lab experience, including R&D experience.

  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and MS Word.

  • Demonstrated willingness to learn and progress within the organization.

  • Strong analytical skills to research, analyze, and draw conclusions based on data.

Preferred Requirements

  • Formulation experience with industrial products (coatings, adhesives, sealants).

  • Aerospace AS9100 product formulation experience.

  • Experience with ChemDraw, Minitab, and JMP.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $70,000 - $85,000.
