Overview
The primary focus of the Network Operations Specialist is to support and maintain the organization's network infrastructure. This position is responsible for integrating new technologies, ensuring network reliability, and optimizing performance across all regions. The role involves a combination of hands-on technical support, proactive network monitoring, and collaboration with internal IT teams and external vendors. The specialist will facilitate the acquisition and deployment of emerging network technologies, ensure that service level agreements are met, maintain accurate documentation, and adhere to best practices in implementation, quality control, and change management. This position requires a solid foundation in LAN/WAN communications, network operations, and vendor management, along with experience in a 24/7 IT environment. Strong troubleshooting skills, familiarity with IT knowledge management, and the ability to work in a secure data center environment are essential.
Responsibilities
Customer and Systems Support:
Design Engineering and Innovation:
- Facilitate the acquisition and integration of new technology into the environment
- Identify and recommend new technology value to the organization
- Research technical concepts and educate other team members as needed
- Present research / proposed projects to IT management
- Participate in technology evaluations
- Collaboration with other design teams within IT
Documentation and Knowledge Management:
- Develop quality documentation of technical processes and procedures
- Document all ticket and project work
- Ensure documentation is sufficient to yield reproducible results
- Identify, track, any resolve gaps in existing documentation
Monitoring and Optimization:
- Review automated infrastructure monitoring systems and escalate appropriately
- Review allocation of system resources to identify usage trends
- Recommend improvements to systems and IT support process
- Recommend implementation standards
IT Security:
- Ensure all applicable infrastructure is patched to meet defined standards and identified vulnerabilities are remediated in a timely manner
- Ensure infrastructure configurations, processes, and procedures are aligned with information security standards
Project Delivery:
- Track and complete assigned IT projects
- Complete tasks in a timely and quality fashion
- Adhere to implementation, quality control, and change control standards
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent certification in computer science, information technology, or related technical field
- 3 years experience in the implementation and support of large-scale network systems
- Subject matter competency in managing LAN/WAN communication services
- Subject matter competency in service level agreements, building process and procedures, and knowledge management
- Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Experience working in a knowledge management platform
- Experience interacting with external vendors and contractors to deliver solutions
- Strong verbal communication and presentation skills
- Result driven, shows initiative, attention to detail, and customer service orientation
- Familiarity in contract and vendor management and business/IT practices
- The ability to physically interact with and manage IT equipment in a data center, MDF, or IDF
- Experience working in a 24 X 7 environment
Special demands:
- This position may require travel on an as-needed basis to domestic and international company locations and training events
Desired Qualifications:
- Subject Matter Familiarity with DevOps practices and OKR framework
- Experience working with a distributed team in a large campus environment
- Experience with Network/Systems Management products such as Cisco DNA, and SolarWinds.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to manage network infrastructure components, including power and cabling.
- Current Cisco Certification
