THE POSITION

Do you thrive in a busy office environment, speak Spanish, and want to make a difference? Join the York City Housing Authority (YHA) as our full-time Receptionist (Clerk Typist 3). If you enjoy listening to peoples' questions about many things related to housing and helping them find the right person or resource to get the answer they need, then you will feel right at home with this position. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be the first point of contact for people who walk into or call our office from the community we serve. Your responsibilities will involve greeting members of the public as they arrive, answering incoming calls on a centralized telephone system and directing calls accordingly, and providing responses to housing related questions from applicants, participants, or others interested parties. This includes helping people complete YHA paperwork or electronic submissions. You will also prepare outgoing mail, sort and distribute incoming mail, prepare an electronic log of received documents, and schedule appointments with staff.

As a bilingual staff member, you will play a crucial role in day to day operations. Our team will rely on your ability to communicate fluently in Spanish to assist callers and walk-ins whose primary language is Spanish, translate mail that is written in Spanish, and prepare signs in Spanish for the waiting area advising of future office closings or notices important to the participants. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Six months as a Clerk Typist 2, and educational development to the level of completion of high school; or
  • One year of progressively complex clerical typing experience and completion of high school; or
  • Six months of moderately complex clerical typing work and completion of a post high school business curriculum; or
  • Any equivalent experience and/or training which provided the required knowledges, skills, and abilities..

Other Requirements:

  • This position requires the selected candidate to be able to read, write, and speak in Spanish. You may be contacted for a Spanish speaking proficiency evaluation conducted by the Bureau of Talent Acquisition, PA Office of Administration. If contacted, you must pass the speaking evaluation in order to be deemed eligible for this position. Your proficiency in reading and writing in Spanish must be demonstrated during the probationary period to achieve regular status in the position.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within York County. If no eligible candidates who live within York County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
