Nurse Practitioner - Psychiatry - Behavioral Medicine - Sahlem Lab

The Duke Psychiatric Advanced Clinical-Translational Idea Lab (PACTiLab) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic team. You'll be part of a multidisciplinary group focused on developing new treatments for psychiatric illnesses, especially mood and addictive disorders. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of clinical care and research, helping translate mechanistic ideas into meaningful clinical outcomes.

In this role, you'll contribute to human laboratory trials, phase-1 to phase-3 treatment studies, and research aimed at improving psychiatric care. You'll also have the chance to engage in teaching and scientific advancement, all while working with cutting-edge neuromodulation techniques like rTMS and ECT.

This is a 100% clinical-research position to start, with potential for a hybrid clinical-research/clinical role in the future.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program
  • Licensure in the State of North Carolina


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and clinical skills
  • Passion for advancing psychiatric research and treatment

As a key member of the PACTiLab team, you will:



  • Recruit and enroll clinical-research participants from Duke and community clinics
  • Conduct structured psychiatric interviews, physicals, and lab/imaging reviews
  • Deliver structured psychotherapy (e.g., MET, CBT)
  • Perform clinical and adverse event assessments
  • Manage urgent clinical issues such as suicidality
  • Administer rTMS and study medications
  • Assist in protocol design and review

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program is required.
  • Must hold current licensure in the State of North Carolina.

Anticipated Pay Range

Duke University provides an annual base salary range for this position:
USD $93,987.00 - $140,980.00

Salary offers are based on factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the role, candidate's experience, education/training, key skills, internal equity, and market considerations.
