Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as a STD Team Lead!

About the role

In this role, you will support departmental growth and lead process improvements. This role combines leadership, coaching, and client-facing responsibilities, with a focus on claims management and operational excellence.

What you will do



  • Review and distribute daily reports to ensure team alignment.
  • Drive workflow efficiency and contribute to process improvement initiatives.
  • Handle escalated calls and provide effective resolutions.
  • Foster strong relationships with agents, brokers, clients, and employees.
  • Coach team members on performance, conduct side-by-side reviews, and lead training sessions.
  • Train new hires and maintain up-to-date knowledge of processes and procedures.
  • Collaborate on strategies to meet departmental goals.
  • Empower and support team members to reach their full potential.
  • Promote a positive, professional workplace culture.
  • Actively participate in feedback, coaching, and development opportunities.
  • Stay current with industry trends through ongoing training.

Compensation

Hourly Range: $26.30-$43.87 plus eligibility for annual bonus program

Who You Are



  • High school diploma required; college degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in STD and FMLA claims management.
  • Familiarity with paid family leave required.
  • Strong understanding of disability contract language and FMLA regulations.
  • Knowledge of Medical Disability Terminology.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building abilities.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively.
  • Willing to get or possess a CLMS designation.
