Job Description

OVERVIEW

As a Senior Quality Engineer, you will be responsible for championing Food Safety and Quality of our manufacturing systems. You will have direct system ownership, working with both internal and external partners to ensure the safety and quality of our Snack and Sheeted products. You will also have the unique opportunity to impact the Innovation, Technology, and Quality function by leveraging your knowledge and skills to provide deep technical expertise and be recognized as a valued partner for our plant, sourcing, and business teams.

PLANT OVERVIEW

Covington is a high-performance work system plant with approximately 475 team members that make cereal and salty snacks products supporting our Morning Foods and Snacks Operating Units. In F26, the site plans to produce 64MM EQC across 8 manufacturing systems and 2 facilities. The plant teams are comprised of highly skilled technicians that operate under a 4-crew, 12-hr shift rotating schedule. The teams are aligned to technology-based work teams within the site they are: Material Handling, Snacks, Sheeted Twinscrew, Puff-Flake Processing & Packaging, and A-B-C Systems Processing & Packaging (1 Sprout and 2 Twinscrew systems).

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide FSQ leadership and direction through technical mastery in the areas of regulatory compliance, SPC, system capability, sanitation, food safety risk mitigation, and champion material supplier food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop action plans with Operations, R&D, Engineering, and FSQ teams to ensure product specifications, analytical procedures, and sampling programs are appropriate and meet system capability and key consumer requirements.
  • Provide leadership and technical support for R&D, HMM, reformulations, and new product start-ups.
  • Provide leadership in the identification and implementation of product and process quality improvement opportunities and productivity gains.
  • Build alignment and strategy with cross functional partners; lead risk assessments and root cause analysis activities for sustainable issue resolution.
  • Conduct risk assessments, manage non-conforming products, and implement corrective actions to minimize losses and prevent recurrence.
  • Lead and support FSQ programs for the site as needed (GMPs, Quality Grid, PEMP, Weight Control, etc.).
  • Be the champion for deep technical problem solving, using data and analytics to inform decision making, and driving digital solutions.
  • Provide leadership to drive both department and overall plant objectives.
  • Model the company's behaviors and Values.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemical, Food Science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience, 10+ years preferred
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, ability to apply engineering principles, and ability to troubleshoot
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and judgment, especially related to risk assessment
  • Ability to flex work schedule when required to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation - this includes night and weekend on-call support and occasional early/late work hours
    • Available for ~0-5 triage calls per week and will not be required to come
  • Proficient knowledge of product quality, sensory, sanitation and food safety programs
  • Strong understanding of FSSC Standards and regulatory requirements
  • Proficient in statistical analysis
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement philosophy and tools
  • Demonstrated leadership and initiative
  • Self-motivated and capable of advancing initiatives independently
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize activities effectively to meet timelines
  • Bias for action and results
  • Demonstrated ability to lead peer group and affect change/department direction via influence management
  • Flexibility and motivation to cover all areas of Food Safety and Quality and able to create innovative solutions to problems with limited resources
  • Hold or have the ability to obtain 3rd Party HACCP and PCQI certification
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships and get work accomplished with and through people at all levels of the organization, differing styles, and multiple functions
  • Ability to lead constructive, positive change within a plant environment
  • Be able to display proficiency in developing mutual respect and trust at levels of the plant, corporate, and external teams in order to execute programs and achieve goals

  • Demonstrated history of utilizing problem solving tools (Root cause analysis including DMAIC, PDCA. FMEA, Fishbone, etc.)

  • Ability to excel in a high performance, team-based environment while visualizing a future state, streamline or simplify current systems
  • Be a champion for people, ability to influence and inspire a high level of trust and inclusion in others
  • ASQ CQE, ASQ Six Sigma Green or Black Belt

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $93700.00 - $140700.00 / Annually.
