THE SALVATION ARMY North and Central Illinois Division JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Residential Support Specialist (RSS), Split Shift 2nd & 3rd. LOCATION/DEPT: Bloomington, Illinois Corps - Safe Harbor Center REPORTS TO: Residential Services Director PEOPLE MANAGER: No FLSA CATEGORY: Part Time, Non-Exempt. 20 hours per week. The Salvation Army North and Central Illinois Division provides these services to people in need. JOB SUMMARY Responsible for providing program oversite in supporting the daily management of operational needs and service delivery for individuals accessing emergency shelter services. Conduct new intakes, enter data into the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) and assist in meeting the basic needs of all program participants. Expected hours - additional hours may be available or required in emergent situations. Monday 10:30 PM - 6:30 AM Tuesday 10:30 PM - 6:30 AM Saturday 5:30 PM - 10:30 PM ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answering the telephone; providing assistance and information as needed
- Document daily activity in logbook
- Document rule infractions through incident reports
- Coordinate and offer assistance to volunteers as they serve meals
- Ensure that meals are prepared according to health department standards
- Receive and document donations and gifts received
- Maintain volunteer log and paperwork associated with volunteers
- Review log entries since the last time worked for pertinent information
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Determine client eligibility by verifying eligibility list and clearance card
- Conduct intake paperwork on new clients.
- Assign clients to an appropriate bed
- Conduct bed checks periodically after curfew
- Check clients in and out of the building
- Pack client belongings
- Ensure the safety of clients
- Enforce program guidelines and policies & procedures
- Contact appropriate agencies when crisis intervention is needed
- Prepare and serve dinner meals when not prepared by volunteer groups
- Remain on duty if there is a problem with the oncoming shift (sick employee) or until another staff member arrives.
- Prepare and serve breakfast meals when not prepared by volunteer groups
- Ensure the building is clean and sanitary at the end of a shift
- Complete laundry by the end of shift
- Clean restrooms as needed
- Other duties as assigned by the Resident Services Director or Corps Officer(s)

Experience: A minimum of three years knowledge and work experience related to Social Services and supporting others is preferred. Familiarity with local community resource is a plus. Skills/Abilities

LIMITATIONS
- This individual will only commit Army resources that have been allocated or approved.
- This individual will adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position. The individual will keep the Residential Services Director informed of all critical issues relating to their area of responsibility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position may be required to do light physical work.
- To successfully perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to use standard office equipment including a PC and speak/advocate for others.
- The work environment for this position includes an office/residential environment with a low to moderate noise level.
- This individual must be able to travel to meet the needs of the position. A valid MVR is required. Must have a willingness to travel within the assigned region and maintain a flexible schedule within business hours.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- This position reports to the Residential Services Director.
- In context related to this position's duties, this individual will interact with a wide range of contacts both internal and external. In these contacts he/she will act as a representative of the Army and its mission.
PERFORMANCE MEASURES
- This individual will be evaluated on how effectively the outcomes of this position are achieved. Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed. An evaluation of how effective service is provided. Performance will also be determined by outcome information provided during weekly staff meetings and monthly reports.
- Timeliness and accuracy of accomplishing assigned goals will be reviewed in regular supervision meetings.
- An evaluation of how effective service is provided within budgetary guidelines.
