Clinical Research Coordinator II

Summary: Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to join the Burn Rehabilitation Laboratory, fulfilling the Clinical Research Coordinator II position. As one of four Burn Model Systems in the US funded by the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR), the Burn Rehabilitation Laboratory conducts a broad range of research activities focusing on understanding the long-term outcomes of people living with burn injury. The position requires a high degree of interaction with patients, medical staff, collaborating researchers, and the burn survivor community. A two-year commitment is strongly preferred.

Key Duties:

  • Co-Manage with another research coordinator the day-to-day aspects of the following projects:
    • A longitudinal database of over 500 adult burn survivors
    • The CLIMB Study - a randomized controlled trial assessing the effects of a self-management program
  • Screen, enroll, and follow up with participants according to established protocols. This includes, but is not limited to, obtaining informed consent, administering questionnaires, shipping or mailing study materials or swabs, data entry, medical record review, and follow-up communications.
  • Attending weekly multidisciplinary rounds at the acute care burn unit
  • Work in concert with Principal Investigators (PIs) and research team to develop and implement patient recruitment and follow-up strategies.
  • Assist PIs in literature searches, data analysis, manuscript writing. Also assist in manuscript tracking and library submissions for the laboratory.
  • Work closely with the program manager and the National Data and Statistical Center to ensure timely and accurate research data collection, data integrity, and consistency with prescribed study protocols, reports, and other projects.
  • Assist the program manager and team in completing quarterly and yearly reports.
  • Attend monthly meetings in collaboration with the other study sites and the Model Systems

Knowledge Translation Center (MKSTC) on dissemination efforts

  • Manages team's social media, quarterly newsletter, and monthly headlines.
  • Ensure compliance with the Mass General Brigham Institutional Review Board and other federal and institutionalguidelines and may submit amendments as instructed by the manager or PI.
  • Collaborate with local and national burn peer support groups on knowledge translation and dissemination efforts.
  • Participate in annual educational events such as Burn Awareness Week or Harvard-Kent Wellness Day.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings.
  • Periodic travel to national conferences and meetings.
  • Provide general administrative assistance as needed.
  • Travel to other Boston hospitals to the respective burn clinics, and inpatient units via the Mass General Brigham shuttle system, including Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants and members of the research team and clinical staff.
  • Superior organizational skills.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including speaking in public or group settings.
  • Anticipate challenges and develop and implement strategies to address them.
  • Robust problem-solving skills.
  • Articulate phone etiquette necessary for contacting and interviewing research participants.
  • Work independently, be self-directed, and contribute as a team member.
  • Demonstrate initiative with the ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing situations.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect for participants' rights.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education/Degree

  • Bachelor's degree required.

Experience

  • Human subjects research experience strongly preferred.
  • Computer proficiency required, with basic proficiency of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software such as REDCap or EPIC, IS, Workday, Advarra.
  • Basic statistical knowledge preferred.
  • Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
