- The full hiring range for the Signs and Markings Technician II is $23.11 to $34.68 an hour dependent upon qualifications and experience.
- The full hiring range for the Senior Signs and Markings Technician is $25.89 to $38.84 an hour dependent upon qualifications and experience.
Anticipated hiring range for this position is $27.09 - $31.16 based on final qualifications and experience
Performs semi-skilled and technical work in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of traffic sign systems and the traffic pavement markings system.
Performs flagging duties. Performs snow shift assignments during the winter season. Work is performed in a high-performing, team-oriented environment with a commitment to quality results.

Duties
-
- Installs traffic signs and markings. Performs and/or reports the need for appropriate repair or maintenance actions. Performs sign layouts and fabricates signs. Assists in maintaining an inventory of signs, posts, and related equipment.
- Interprets and executes instructions from the supervisor or team lead for the proper installation of signs and markings.
- Assists supervisor in obtaining utility locates.
- Provides supervisor with information for the daily work input in an accurate and timely manner. This includes maintaining signs and markings maintenance and historical information.
- Operates heavy equipment such as snow blower, front end loader, trucks including tractor and low boy trailers, and paint truck.
- Performs manual labor duties requiring the use of hand tools such as shovels, picks, rakes, chain saws, axes, hand saws, power drills, post hole diggers, up to a 90-pound jack hammer, etc.
- Plows or removes snow from streets and other public thoroughfares, loads deicing material into trucks, and spreads deicing material onto the roadway with tandem axle truck. Works on an on-call basis for winter storm duty and other emergency conditions. Shiftwork for snowstorms and other emergency events may require 12-hour shifts or longer based on the severity of the storm/event.
- Performs the duties of a certified flagger within construction zones to control pedestrian and vehicle traffic by flagging and/or properly placing barricades. Assists with traffic control set up and removal at the start and end of each shift.
- May be required to perform other Road & Bridge functions when necessary.
Skills, Abilities and Competencies:
- Knowledge to properly and safely operate and maintain assigned light equipment and hand tools.
- Knowledge of safety rules, regulations and practices.
- Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and County codes and regulations on sign fabrication specifications and installation.
- Ability to perform strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to receive and attend on-the-job training.
- Ability to receive and attend on-the-job training on equipment operations with the necessary driver's licensing and endorsements.

Education and Experience: Signs and Markings Technician II
- High school graduation or GED equivalent is required.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience is required as a Signs & Markings Technician I or equivalent work installing and maintaining traffic signs and pavement markings or performing construction/roadway maintenance work.
Senior Signs and Markings Technician
- High School Graduations or GED Equivalent is required.
- At least 3 years progressively responsible experience installing and maintaining traffic signs and pavement markings. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
An equivalent combination of education and experience that satisfy the requirements of the job may be considered.

Pre-Employment and Post-Employment Additional Requirements:
- Pre-employment testing requirements include an acceptable current motor vehicle check, background check, physical capabilities examination, and a drug screen.
- Possession of a valid class "R" driver's license at the time of hire is required.
- Possession of a valid Colorado CDL Class "B" driver's license with tanker endorsement at the time of hire is preferred. Ability to obtain a Colorado CDL Class "B" license with tanker endorsement within six months of hire is required.
- Possession of a valid Colorado CDL Class "A" driver's license with tanker endorsement at the time of hire is preferred. Certain positions in this job title require the attainment of a Colorado CDL Class "A" license within six months of hire; such requirements will be communicated at the time of hire.
- Ability to obtain flagger certification within 10 days of appointment is required. Flagger training is provided.
- Possession of IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) Work Zone Safety Certification is preferred at the time of hire. Ability to obtain IMSA Level I Signs and Marking Technician Certification within one year of hire is required.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Position requires exposure to all weather conditions, high noise levels, dust, fumes and other road traffic conditions.
- Work is performed primarily outdoors often in extreme weather conditions and rough terrain.
- Work will be required for winter storm duty and other emergency conditions on an on-call basis or during evenings, weekends, on-call, or irregular hours.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The following are some of the physical demands commonly associated with this position.
- Heavy manual labor in and out of doors is typical with this position including the regular use of a variety of equipment and hand tools as noted above.
- Spends 20% of the time sitting and 80% of the time either upright or walking.
- Frequently lifts, carries, pulls or pushes up to 80 lbs.
- Uses cart dolly, or other equipment to carry in excess of 80 lbs.
- Occasionally lifts and operates a 90-pound jack hammer.
- Frequently stoops, kneels, balances reaches, crawls and crouches while performing work duties in both an outdoor and indoor setting.
- Verbal and auditory capacity enabling interpersonal communication through automated devices, such as telephones, radios, etc.
- Constant use of eye, hand and finger coordination enabling the use of machinery, equipment, and tools in a field setting.
- Visual capacity enabling constant operations and safe use of equipment and vehicles.
