Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Division of Institutional Advancement is responsible for acquiring support from corporations, foundations, alumni and friends to support the programs of the University. By using creative strategies to enhance the University's image, the office promotes the overall mission of North Carolina Central University to its external publics in order to solicit and acquire philanthropic support.
Primary Purpose of Position
This position reports directly to the Vice Chancellor of Institutional Advancement and will develop and implement fund-raising strategies and activities for institutional prospects to carry forward the mission and vision of North Carolina Central University. The Associate Vice Chancellor will represent the Division of Institutional Advancement at NCCU in the market place to qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward principal and planned gift prospects and align benefactor interests with the strategic objectives of the institution.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Proven ability to provide leadership, management, and strategic direction for staff and fundraising goals.
Demonstrated success as a major gift and principal gift fundraiser.
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Must have budget management experience.
Possesses a thorough understanding of the spectrum of fundraising programs, including annual giving, planned/deferred giving, capital campaigns, and individual, corporate, and foundation gifts.
A demonstrated ability to manage details, efficient work habits, and flexibility.
Outstanding organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
Minimum Education/Experience
Undergraduate degree in a related field minimum of 10 years combined leadership and major gift fund-raising management experience including five to eight years in a senior management capacity with a nonprofit organization involving a significant number of people.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties


Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Work with the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement (VC) to develop a strategy and establish measurable goals to increase alumni engagement and private fundraising.

Work with VC to coordinate all fundraising activity with the NCCU Foundation.
Develop strong positive relationships with the university community to establish the Division as the major resource and coordinator of all university fundraising.

Identify, cultivate, and solicit donor prospects for the securement of principle and planned gifts.


Function Administrative
Describe the specific tasks and responsibilities related to the function.
Provide oversight to development and alumni relations programs/activity as directed by the VC.

Manage Title III to including proposal development, management of funds, and post award reporting.

In consultation with the Vice Chancellor, establish and adhere to annual operating budgets and ensure that all Advancement programs are operating in a fiscally prudent manner.

Ensure adherence to procedures regarding procurement and adequate processing of requisitions for the Division, including the supervision of the office manager.
