HOURS 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday thru Friday Please Note: Internal BSU Service and Staff Affiliated employees may not apply for these positions What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Under supervision, perform service required in the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, swimming pools, autoclaves, stills and related equipment, complying withEPA,OSHA, and all appropriate regulations and codes. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Assist in maintenance and repair work on heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, and report work performed on Preventive Maintenance Forms. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert an excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly. Task requires the visual ability to distinguish color and perceive depth. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Employees are exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat and cold, high humidity, noise, heights, fumes, odors, oils, chemicals, dust, and may be required to wear a filter mask, respirator, and various protective clothing and/or equipment. Task requires the mental ability to receive, follow, and provide oral instructions and information and to read, comprehend, follow, and provide written instructions and information. 2. Assist in troubleshooting, adjusting, repairing and calibrating controls on allHVACequipment. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Task requires the ability to operate various hand and power tools, ladders, scaffolds, and measuring instrumentation and equipment. Assist in inspecting, maintaining, and lubricatingHVACrelated pumps, motors, dampers, and other related equipment; assist in inspecting and cleaning coils and fans; inspect belts, vibration absorbers, and other related equipment. Requires the physical ability to climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, stand and/or stoop for long periods of time, and exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly. Read and interpret drawings, diagrams and specifications pertaining to heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment. 7. Acquire and maintain knowledge of various job-related chemicals, environmental concerns, and technological improvements/advancements. 8. Assist in Inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing of insulation on water lines, steam lines, pumps, and otherHVACrelated equipment. 9. Assist in operating, maintaining, installing, and repairing building automation systems related toHVAC, including computer hardware and software. 10. Assist in constructing, fabricating, remodeling, maintaining, and repairing air system fabrications forHVACSystems as directed. 11. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent (GED). A. Successful completion of an apprenticeship program in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning as approved by the Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training; or six (6) years of experience in HVAC; or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable job knowledge can be acquired as determined by Ball State University. B. Must be able to read and comprehend all specified policies and procedures for safety, hazardous materials information, University policies, procedures, and communications, and perform mathematical functions. Preferred Qualifications: Vocational School Training. A. Experience with electronic controls for ventilation systems.
