What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Senior Counsel to join the Supply Chain Legal Team, supporting procurement operations for goods and services. This role will be based in one of Tesla's offices in Austin, Texas, or the Bay Area of California. The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial lawyer with a passion for accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. This position offers a unique opportunity for a proactive and entrepreneurial lawyer to contribute to a fast-growing, dynamic company by providing strategic legal support and fostering collaboration across global teams.
What You'll Do
- Manage a high volume and wide range of commercial contracts, including supply agreements, technology licensing agreements, development agreements, services agreements (including cloud-based services), software license agreements, and confidentiality agreements
- Provide advice on a wide variety of strategic, regulatory, and transactional matters for Tesla's supply chain team and other teams
- Facilitate resolution of legal disputes, including drafting and responding to breach of contract claims and negotiating and drafting settlement agreements
- Prepare and maintain contract forms to support Tesla's businesses and areas of operation
- Liaise with colleagues worldwide to ensure consistency of contracts and risk allocation across the various Tesla businesses
What You'll Bring
- Juris Doctor with current license to practice in at least one U.S. state or Washington, DC
- Minimum of 8 years of practice experience, with a combination of law firm and in-house experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills with business-level to near native-level fluency in English (verbal and written), with Spanish, German, and additional languages as a plus
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to proactively identify problems, drive projects, make complex cost/benefit assessments, identify pragmatic and creative legal and business solutions, and quickly earn the confidence of colleagues
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while juggling competing priorities in a fast-paced, challenging environment
- Quick and flexible learner with well-honed analytical skills, intellectual curiosity, adaptability, comfort with ambiguity and risk, and enthusiasm for dynamic change
- High standards, impeccable integrity and ethics, and unquestionable good judgment

Expected Compensation
$172,000 - $318,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
