Slayden Constructors Inc. (SCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of MWH Constructors, Inc. (MWH), is currently seeking a Health & Safety Manager to support critical water, wastewater, and advanced water treatment plant projects for both municipal and industrial clients. This position will be based out of the Salem, Oregon office.

This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and partners with operations teams to support safety project executions. An ideal candidate brings direct knowledge of self-performed construction work or prior hands-on trade experience, enabling practical solutions and effective communication with project teams.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities



  • Lead the execution of the company's existing safety program, policies, and procedures across all projects.
  • Responsible for managing activities related to environmental and safety control.
  • Plans, implements, and coordinates programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses.
  • Partner with project management and operations to address compliance gaps and corrective action plans.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, craft leads, and project management to address safety concerns proactively.
  • Provide training and guidance to employees on health and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses and implement measures to prevent recurrence. Ensure reporting and follow-up procedures are executed consistently.
  • Collaborate with management to promote a culture of safety and awareness throughout the organization.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and new regulations to address health and safety issues proactively.


Basic Qualifications



  • Occupational Safety, Environmental Safety & Health, Health Management or related field or equivalent combination of experience, skills, and training.
  • Minimum of 5 years' construction and safety experience, preferably in the water/wastewater industry.
  • Hands-on trade or craft experience (laborer, operator, carpenter, mechanical, etc.) highly preferred.
  • Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures as needed.
  • In-depth knowledge of local, state, and federal health & safety regulations, including OSHA and DOT.
  • In-depth knowledge of OHSA, EM-385, and state/local safety regulations.
  • Certifications such as CHST, CSP, OHST, OR OSHA30/500,510 & 511 are strongly preferred.
  • Ability to provide training and certification in OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, fall protection, and other safety programs.
  • All required safety, quality, and compliance training.
