*Important note: the first 1-2 weeks of training will be onsite, the first 2 days will be in Sterling, VA and the next few days will be in Silver Spring, MD. After training this will be 100% remote. *
*Description* Overview: This role focuses on post-billing follow-up for hospital claims that remain unpaid after 180 days. The specialist will investigate outstanding claims, determine the necessary next steps, and coordinate resolution efforts. While minimal use of the client's internal billing system is expected, the specialist will either guide in-house billers on corrections or directly contact insurance providers via phone or web portals. Updates will be documented in the internal system to facilitate billing or appropriate write-offs. *Key Responsibilities:* * Review and follow up on aged hospital claims (180+ days) * Investigate claim status and determine resolution steps * Communicate with insurance companies via phone or online portals * Collaborate with internal billing teams to correct and resubmit claims * Update claim status in the internal system * Handle patient outreach when claims are determined to be patient responsibility * Submit medical records, correct claim errors, and obtain retro authorizations as needed *Daily Expectations:* * Process 20-30 claims per day once fully trained * Work with a variety of payers, primarily Medicaid, CareFirst BCBS, Cigna, and Aetna *Customer Service & Collections Duties:* * Make outbound and receive inbound calls * Resolve outstanding account balances using internal systems * Maintain organized work files for account tracking * Provide empathetic and effective customer service to patients * Conduct skip tracing to locate debtor contact information * Follow up with insurance providers for claim resolution * Meet or exceed monthly productivity and performance goals *Required Skills & Qualifications:* * Strong customer service and communication skills * Ability to navigate multiple computer systems simultaneously * Familiarity with HIPAA, FCRA, FDCPA, and other compliance standards * High school diploma or equivalent * Experience with Cerner or similar healthcare billing systems *Preferred Experience:* * Prior experience in medical billing, collections, or accounts receivable * Exposure to high-volume call environments * Knowledge of payer-specific requirements and claim resolution processes *Pay and Benefits* The pay range for this position is $37440.00 - $41600.00/yr.
